Reunited and It Feels So Good!

"Reunited and it feels so good!"

That song has been stuck in my head
since yesterday afternoon
when the Ever-Patient Terry
met me at our favorite bar
and told me my FedEx package had arrived.

Finally!
Thank God!

I had been sitting at Parkway
nursing a glass of merlot
and kicking myself
for locking myself
out of the house
four hours earlier.

One can only kill time for so long

~ wandering up and down the aisles
of Walmart and Sam's Club
while trying to remember
what was on the grocery list
locked in the house ~

before consoling oneself
with a little red.

Do you lose things?
Misplace things?
Forget things?

I could blame my predicament
on increasing age,
but honestly,
I've had a talent for this
all of my life:

~ Lost my car keys in Halifax's Victoria General Hospital.
~ Locked myself out of my car in the hot Nevada desert.
~ Left my purse on a plane in Newark, New Jersey.
~ Locked myself out of the house at 40 below in Sioux Lookout.
~ Left my wallet in a Las Vegas hotel safety deposit box.

Oh the joys of being distractible and forgetful!
I could go on, but you get the idea.

So, Monday I left my computer in a restaurant
an hour's drive from home.
Along with my
house keys,
car keys,
camera computer cord,
backup external hard drive
(with tens of thousands of photos),
iPod shuffle,
and earbuds.
I don't recommend this.

It's been a rough week
of reliving that moment
of walking away from the restaurant table
without picking up my briefcase.

"I was a fool to ever leave your side.
Me minus you is such a lonely ride."

I never realized
how attached I was to my technology!

I've been coping.
And I've remembered not to
automatically lock the door
behind me when leaving the house.
Until I didn't.

Oops!  No cell phone either!

A nice man at Parkway lent me his cell
so I could call the Ever-Patient
as soon as he got home.

The E-P came to my rescue
and told me my computer et al.
had arrived via FedEx ~
finally.

And then he bought me dinner and a second glass of wine.

I may have issues with distractibility and forgetfulness,
but I sure know how to pick a one-of-a-kind husband!

Back to the blogging world tomorrow ~
unless I discover
another iteration of screwing up!  LOL!

  2. Glad your computer is home safe and sound! Even if you couldn't be in your house at the time to enjoy the moment. Hey, no more stressing about it and you got a nice dinner to boot.

  3. I am glad you recovered your computer! Some of your images made me smile, so thank you for that. I think we all forget things, misplace things, etc. at times, no matter what our age! I absolutely love your sense of humour and even though you are fully aware of your misgivings, (and every single one of us, without exception, has them), you are able to see humour and the upside, and this is a wonderful quality! God bless you.

    1. Thank you for your very kind words and understanding, Linda! Where would we be in life without humor? Laughing makes life well worth living. Happy Saturday to you!

  4. Oh boy, I cringed in empathetic sympathy, hahaah! Not only do I lose things I also absentmindedly pick up other people's things and put them in my purse (my bosses car keys) or carry them off in my hands (neighbour's phone book). Oh well, everybody has to have one flaw, eh? Wouldn't be much fun to be perfect! :)

    1. Hi Keith! Yeah, sometimes it is good to be cut off. I hadn't realized how ensnared I was! It's funny how some songs stick in your head! I even get songs stuck in my dreams! Have a good one!

    1. Hi Dreaming! Your right ~ I felt without a life! LOL And how ridiculous is that? But I am a happy person now. I seriously thought about breaking a window. I've got to hide a few keys in the garage and landscape. The guy in the bar who lent me his cell phone has a bronze turtle where he sticks a spare key. And my grandmother had a stone that generations of relatives (and probably the whole village) knew about, so we all could get into her house. Happy weekend to you!

    1. Are you kidding, Debra?! Wow! I left Sioux in the summer of 1963 ~ always thought I'd go back there, certainly back to The North, and here I am in Colorado ~ which never entered my mind! My sister Barb said it was snowing in Calgary AGAIN this morning. Hope the weather is kinder in Edmonton! Take care!

  10. Good that you got 'your buddy' back safe and sound!
Maybe you ought to be attached to your favourite things! I mean really attached!! Remember those mittens with the very long cord/yarn that went through your sleeves to the other hand? Well, that kind of attached. There is a name for them but you won't be hearing me saying that to you.....I have to meet you first!! lol

    1. LOL Jim! Some of my third graders had those mittens! It's a good thing my head is attached, because I might lose it. Well, since I'm in my head so much, I might lose my body! Hope you are enjoying your weekend!

    1. Hi Terry! I've started a backfire against that song with Passenger ~ my latest music passion! By the way my friend (who has horses) and I were discussing emergency preparedness and evacuation when we were talking about you, Boomer, and the other horses. Just in case you were wondering!

  12. I know that feeling of panic when you think that something is lost forever. I'm so happy that it was all found safely and back in your hands again. I always carry a spare car key in my purse. And for Christmas one year my son got us a lock with a code. I love it. No fumbling with keys...just punch in the numbers. He had one put in his house after his son came home from school one winter day forgetting his key. He had to sit in a car in the cold for an hour before dad got home.

    1. Thank you for your sympathetic stories, Peggy. At least your grandson had a car to sit in! It's really cold at 40 below when you don't have a jacket on! I now have a spare key in my purse after Terry had to rescue me last December (in my defense it had been lost 30 years since I had locked myself out of the car) ~ but then my purse was locked in the car then anyway! I may have to find a rock to hide a key under like my grandmother had. I hope that you are enjoying your weekend!

The way you put it all!!
It makes me laugh naturally, also because I am that kind of girl too!
I remember never being as stresses out than the time I forgot ALL my jewelery in my extra bag when we left the US for France. We were already late catching THE plane... I will say no more... Hubby was REALLY cross!! LOL!
Keep well and keep your head on your shoulders!!

  16. Brainworm is the PERFECT word for it!

Now we know just why the E-P is so P - lots of practice. :)

I feel much better about my mental lapses now that I know the extent of yours ... and I'm so glad you got your stuff back. Losing the photos would be the worst part.

    1. Hi Sue! Yes, the E-P has had lots of practice with patience! When I was growing up, what I wanted more than anything was to find someone who would love me and accept me for who I was ~ and by some miracle I did. Everything else is gravy! Losing the photos would have been the worst, for sure. I tend to keep my memory cards with the most important. I hope spring has finally sprung in your corner of the world! Take care!

    1. Homes are surprisingly secure, aren't they! I did manage to shimmy through a small, obscure window in my sister-in-law's home once when everyone was locked out. My husband and his brother boosted me up to reach the window and squeeze through! Have a happy Monday!
