Bonjour, Mes Amis!

You may have wondered where I disappeared to
over the past two weeks.

Life threw me some unexpected curves
that made it difficult for me to post.

But that's all behind me now,
and things are looking up indeed!

Terry et moi sommes à Paris!

Balcony in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris

We left on Saturday and flew from Denver
via Iceland to France.

Up, up, and away!

We flew over northern Ontario, Hudson Bay,
across Greenland, and into Reykjavik, Iceland.

Northern Ontario Route

To my surprise and delight, we flew within 41 miles
of Sioux Lookout where I lived as a young girl,
but it was cloudy and I was on the wrong side of the plane.

There was a break in the clouds
as we approached Hudson Bay,
but then it was solid cloud cover
until we got to Greenland.

Coming into Keflavik Airport Outside Reykjavik

I imagined a lot of things about Iceland,
but I never imagined that the first thing I'd see
would be this!

Iceland?  A Golf Course!

We switched planes and were off to France!

Before long we were checking into
our little home away from home in
Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris.

And then we were off to explore!

It is very late, so I must sign off!
More to come at my next chance.
Bon Nuit!

  1. Hey Fundy! Glad you're back. Some great photos. Those thunderheads are huge. Sorry you didn't get to see where you grew up, but seeing Greenland covered in ice was rather amazing.

    1. Thanks, Alex! It was a really special flight. Just to catch a glimpse of Hudson Bay was amazing, and Greenland was a thrill. I've studied continental ice sheets, but to actually see the mountains disappearing under the ice, and then nothing but ice as far as I could see, well, the experience was one of the highlights of my life. The ice is vast, threatening, and mysterious ~ and oh so beautiful at sunrise! Humbling, too, because I knew that It would be impossible for me to survive out there. Have a good one!

    1. Thanks, Linda! I felt badly about being unable to blog! But so much happened in the last ten days at home, starting with my trusty car going terminal on me, my retirement money floating around the country in a paper check instead of rolling over via an electronic, and my computer going down with no more memory. It was extremely stressful, but it all got resolved! I've had an opportunity to sip wine for hours among the very relaxed and lovely French. People have been wonderful hear, despite how I murder the language! Take care!

    1. Hey, Pat! Yes, we were just in Hawaii. But after a life of working and saving, I'm going to have some fun traveling! Paris is wonderful. I so want to return when I have a little more time. Terry and I barely scratched the surface. You are as far as I'm going to get in comments tonight! I'm falling asleep at my keyboard. I hope all is well with you!

    1. Hi Jill! We are having a wonderful time! I will be posting sporadically until I get home. Just a heads up ~ my computer ran out of memory, and I had to archive all my photos on external drive until I get home and learn what to do with an Apple trainer. I can't access my Scavenger Hunt pictures , and I'm not sure if I can get another set done while I'm traveling. So if I don't post for May's SH, you'll know why. I hope all is well as you head into the winter!

    1. Hi Dreaming! I had every intention of letting people know that I would be traveling, but I had a number of time consuming surprises pop up that I had to deal with before departing! But all is well, and I will be posting as time allows. Paris is a dramatic change from Aurora! Hope all is well for you and yours.

    1. Thanks, Dawna! Things were unexpectedly hectic at home before we left for Paris. Now we are visiting my sister-in-law in London. I will be posting more photos, as traveling allows. The clouds were so beautiful as we took off and flew out of Colorado. I never tire of cloud watching from a plane. Take care!

  8. This is amazing! the only time I flew over Greenland was at night so I couldn't see anything. I'm very curious about Iceland (going there in August) but that picture sure surprised me too. I wonder if it's really worth maintaning a golf course that can be used only a few months a year.
Love the balconies of your Hotel btw.

    1. Thanks, Sartassa. I wanted to see Greenland so much, so I was thrilled when it was visible. I couldn't stop looking at the ice in all directions, and we just flew over the southern tip. It was wonderful! I do plan to post about Iceland, because we are stopping over there on our way home. I hope that your trip there is wonderful!

    2. Yes, Greendland's suposed to be amazing. I once had a pen pal from there and I could hardly believe people actually lived in such an isolated place that far north before I got to know her. Due to climate change things are changing though. I heard they're even able to farm potatoes These days.(or was that iceland?!)

Seeing the route you took and only 1 stop, that's perfect. I suspect we could get a direct flight from here. The hotel looks perfect. Terry really can find the best places for the 2 of you.

Au revoir and safe trip home ~~ while munching croissants and du cafe!!!

    1. Hey Ron! Thank you! And yes, Terry is a master at finding hotels and cool places to eat. We had a fabulous time in Paris which I will be posting about. We're just short on time. Now we are in my sister-in-law's and BIL's flat in Notting Hill, London. We just got here, learned how everything worked (including getting online), and Terry and Noreen have gone to Portobello Road to do a little shopping. I'm going to sneak in a quick nap! I miss the wonderful Parisian coffee already ~ I'm ready to go back again. History seeps from every cobblestone and corner in Paris. I love it! Take care!
