Bittersweet Farewell

How time flies when you're having fun!
After almost three wonderful weeks
in my native Nova Scotia,
it was time to say goodbye.

It's always bittersweet to leave
my sisters and brother.

Except for Terry,
there is no one I'd rather spend time with
than my awesome siblings.

We get each other.
We always have one another's backs.
And boy, do we have fun together!
Often ridiculous fun!

Do you and your family
do ridiculous things together?

We have a tradition of rolling down
the steep grassy hills
of Fort Anne in Annapolis Royal.

Our newest niece Jeannie
married our nephew Neil in 2012.

There was no way
she could escape Nova Scotia this year,
without rolling down a Fort Anne hill
for the first time.

Jeannie is an awesome sport,
and she is now an official member of the family!

We don't have to do anything special.
It's enough just to be together.

  1. Looks like a special time with your family. The video of them rolling down the hill is funny. Bet that makes a great sledding hill in the winter.

    1. Hi Alex! I have to admit, I've never gone sledding down that hill, but I bet it would be a blast! Enjoy your holiday weekend!

    1. We did have a grand time, Pat! This sounds really weird, but the day after my father's memorial service, we five sibs, my SIL Sue, my fifty-nine year old mother, and my then fiancé Terry, all went and rolled down the hill at Fort Anne together ~ we were so dizzy and laughing loudly. Then we went out for a Chinese dinner together, something Dad used to love to do. It felt so great, just the finishing tribute to Dad. Have a great weekend!

  3. Your hill rolling activities reminds me of that English village where they roll the cheese down the hill and chase it!

    1. That sounds like fun. We'd probably join in, catch the cheese, and make grilled cheese sandwiches! Have a good one!

Some people think our family is C–R–A–Z–Y ~ but we do have fun. I'm happy to hear you got to spend a week with your sisters. Have an awesome long weekend. I'm going to catch up on your blog in the mountains! It was so good to hear from you! Take care!

  9. You had a wonderful time together. But togetherness makes it all difficult to say goodbye. However, you guys have good memories to remember each other which would make little easier to say goodbye. Thanks.

  12. Hi Ron! I'm behind on my emails, so I didn't realize this comment was here. I'm coming down the home stretch when it comes to catching up, though! Yeah! Love Frankie Valli! Have you seen "Jersey Boys Yet?" Fantastic. I'm about to head over to Parkway for FNDN with T. Have a great evening!
