Monday Morning Music Break: First Edition and Computers !@#$%^ Argh!

This is how my mind feels sometimes:

You Tube:  You Can't Download Vinyl

It felt loudly like this last Thursday night
when I was trying to finish my northern post.

The Ever-Patient Terry had headed off to bed
biting his tongue to avoid saying,
"Don't stay up late; you know what condition you're in."

He was thinking medically and psychologically.
Some battles can't be won, and he wisely
pulled the covers up over his head and went to sleep.

I was at the counter tearing my hair out
as I tried to upload a Wikipedia map
and mark Lansdowne House on it.
I had managed to do something like that once before,
but I couldn't remember how.

After a lot of cursing, chocolate, and ginger,
more than a few tears,
numerous counter pounds,
and shenanigans I managed this:

Eventually even I figure out the battle is lost,
so I gave up, scheduled my post, and went to bed.
!@#$%^   Argh!

Friday morning:
With a brand new, sunny day
and a fresh burst of optimism,
I knew there had to be a better way.

I started searching on Google and found this promising lead:
How to Add Text to Photos Easily Using Preview in Mac OS X.

Now, if you're not challenged by computers,
i.e. LD in computers,
nor intimidated,
impulsive,
easily frustrated,
anxious,
panicked, and
know you're stupid, Stupid, STUPID with technology,
you probably would have started with that simple search
long before 10:30 p.m. when you're trying to get a post out.
But that's not me.

So I this morning I started in somewhat
slowly, calmly, methodically,
and voilĂ :

On a roll, I kept experimenting:

Now, it's not as if I don't know better.
After all, my Apple trainers and
the geniuses at the Genius Bar
have all told me that I go way too fast
overwhelming my computer so it freezes or crashes,
don't see things in front of me,
and am too rough with the mousepad and keys.
"Slowly, calmly, gently," Kimberly would say.

I forget all of that when I'm frustrated.

But now I feel brilliant!
Beat you again, Computer!
I figured it out!
Slowly, but surely, I'm making it work!

Now if I can just remember!

On a time-pressed day, Dad could manage this:

But with more time and computer help, I can do this:

I am a happy person!
But one of these days, I'll find The Perfect Map.
In the meantime
my new maps are stashed in my photo library.

Sheldon would understand!

    1. Hi, Linda! Thank you for your wonderful words. And, "Oops!" I hadn't intended to publish this right now. I forgot it was on automatic schedule! Win one battle; lose the next! I hope to get around everyone in the next couple of days and even manage a brief Christmas post. Wishing you fun and joy in the run up to Christmas! Love and hugs!

  2. You figured it out! Sometimes it is better to attack a problem fresh.
    Have a wonderful Christmas, Fundy.

    1. You have a wonderful Christmas, too, Alex! We're heading up the hill for Christmas in the mountains with Terry's side of our family. Enjoy that movie on Christmas Eve!

  3. Computer frustration...I know it well. I tried to learn Lightroom. First I paid away too much for it at Best Buy and later realized I could have gotten it for much less then I had trouble installing it. Once installed I couldn't decipher it at all. So I took an online course..which completely frustrated me. I am stubborn and wouldn't let it get the best of me. I worked hours and hours each day and did get some fundamentals but never really understood. Finally I threw my hands up in the air and declared...I QUIT. I've never looked at it since. So bravo to you for figuring out your problem. Kudos!

  6. Hmmm, I use Picasa, and it is so easy there to insert text, choose the font, size, colour, Bold Italic or underline. Well done to you for the sticking to get it sorted. I love your maps.

    1. Kudos to you, Jean. I can do some things with Picasa, but it always tried to load my 50,000 or more photos that I have in Apple's Photos, so usually it has me tearing my hair out. So today is the shortest day of the year here, so that must mean it's Midsummer's Night Eve in NZ! Wow! I know how it all works scientifically, but it's still hard to imagine. Enjoy these pre-Christmas days!

  8. Louise, you are so funny. I love your cursing, chocolate and ginger line!
If you ever look at my blog and are impressed by the clean, simple look of it...don't be! It is only because I am in fear of doing anything different on it, I can mess things up so badly! Love the map your Dad made in comparison to the one that can be made with the computer!
    Merry Christmas!
