Beautiful Things

Connected again, that's a beautiful thing!
It's amazing how much technology impacts our lives.
I'm am very grateful to be back online.

One of the hardest things was missing my music videos
which I play and sing along with throughout the day.
So I've been gorging on my favorite songs,
like this version of "What's Up" performed by Playing for Change.

It features two members of the very talented international group,
Clarence Bekker Milton (Netherlands) and Louis Mhlanga (Zimbabwe).
CB sings with a passion and a joy that radiate, never failing to fill my heart,
and Louie is one intense guitarist, one of my favorites in the world.
I enjoy all the members including Titi Tsira (South Africa)
and Grandpa Elliot (USA) who also appear in this video.

Our renovation is moving along, and on Monday Terry and I
went to Urban Lights to choose some light fixtures and fans.
It was more like an Urban Fantasy with a maze of glittering lights.

  1. What a joyful reconnection with music, creativity, and life’s little wonders; it sounds like you're soaking in beauty from every angle, both online and at home

    1. Yes, I am, Roentare! I asked on my blog years and years ago that if you had to choose between being blind, deaf, or paralyzed which would you choose. I still don't know the answer for me. So I'm grateful for each day I have none of the above, and if I get stressed and down, I consider the beautiful things in my life. Btw, yesterday I was reading the list of the best cities in the 2025 Global Livability Index from the Economist Intelligence Unit. Copenhagen scored the top spot, but Australia had three cities in the top 10: Melbourne #4, Sydney#6, and Adelaide#9. I've certainly enjoyed seeing Melbourne through your eyes. Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Thank you, dear Linda! Smiles are the easiest contribution you can give to the world. And when you're down, there's nothing like someone flashing you a smile or looking at the smiles of people you love. Wishing you smiles this weekend!

  3. ...I hope that the completion of your renovations is in sight. Thanks "What's Up!" Be well, Louise.

    1. Thank you, Tom! Yes, In sight! I'll be glad when it's finished and we have everything back in place. I'll be doing some serious Swedish death cleaning as we unpack. 😂 After living in chaos for 12 weeks, so far, with packing for two weeks and camping out in the basement for 10, I am inspired to cull and pitch. Meanwhile I can "rest" imagining your beautiful, lush, and green oasis. Enjoy the weekend, Tom!

  4. I'm loving every one of your smiles! I wish we had that lighting store here! We're pretty much stuck with Lowes and Home Depot! SO much happiness here, it's a marvelous way to begin my day!

    1. Thank you, Jeanie! Urban Lights was out of this world! I saw lights that were $25,000, $50,000, unreal. And there were a number of faddish lights in the $800 to $2000 range that had recently come in and were already phasing out in popularity. I was like deer in the headlights. 😵‍💫😂 Rhonda quickly determined that we like simple things at a good price, and she was awesome at searching down what worked for us. She also has a husband with ADHD, so she knew how to handle me. 😵‍💫😂. I know you create beautiful spaces, so I'm sure you work wonders with what is available at Lowes and Home Depot. Have a lovely weekend!

    1. Thanks, Debra! The point that the sun is the farthest north of the equator comes tonight 8:42 PM here (Mountain Time). I always have mixed feelings about the Summer Solstice, because it's the longest day of the year which I love, but then the days start growing shorter. Now the Winter Solstice ~ I love that! One of the things my kiddos and I did in science was track the length of the days throughout the year and observe where the sun is on the horizon as it moved north and south. These are the things I miss about teaching, watching my kiddos learn and discover our amazing world ~ the other BS not so much. I'm sorry about the Oilers. I was thinking of you throughout the final game. Maybe it will be the Oilers vs the Avs next year. Enjoy tonight!

    1. Me too, Alex! And I can't believe I'm flying home from Las Vegas on IWSG Day - Didn't see that coming! No worries, though, I have a plan for handling co-hosting duties. Thank goodness the new Capital One lounge is open at the LV airport and the flight isn't hours long. 😂 Never a dull moment. Enjoy the weekend, my friend!

    1. Thanks, Sue! Sometimes I have to overload myself with beautiful, happy things to pull myself out of the dumps. My emotions have been all over the places in the last couple of weeks. I struggle when things are in chaos for weeks and weeks. I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend! Happy Winter Solstice to you! Take care!

  9. It must be a lot of work to pick out new fixtures, especially since you have to pick them while you're still under construction. Glad to read you're back online, and glad you have such happy painters too. Have a super weekend.

    1. Thanks, Erika! Time is flying so fast that my weekend is almost over. Oh well, I still have Las Fajitas, dinner, and my margarita this evening. When we went to Urban Lights, we had some great suggestions given us by our electrician. Most importantly he told us to get fixtures that you could change the bulbs on. I'm not sure that I would have thought of that. The trades people who have showed up for our renovation via Tivoli Renovations have been great. I've had fun meeting them all and chatting with them. but I'll be glad when it's finished, and unpacking too. I hope you've had a super weekend too!

  11. That is a great version of the song indeed.

Now that is one big arse light store. Some of those lights look bigger than an average garage lol probably cost as much as a garage too.

Newest addition sure is cute. Second newest addition isn't impressed?

Welcome back to the online world.

    1. Thanks, Pat! I saw one light fixture the size of my Forester (in total cubic feet, not shape) that cost $50,000. Are you kidding??? And some others from some gorgeous wood that has to be harvested from the rain forest in the Amazon. I thought I took all kinds of photos, but I must have screwed up. Terry and I were so stressed out and frustrated that day by the internet and the tv situation that he drove me to my doctor for an appointment on the way to Urban Lights. My appointment is tomorrow morning. 😵‍💫 At least Terry was very gracious, but my doctor will probably ask me about that tomorrow. I'm worried about Alzheimers. 😂. Everyone surrounding Jackson is trying to make sure he doesn't feel upstaged by his new sister. I'll keep you posted about NS. Take care!
