I remembered at the last minute I had to do a portrait for my friend Nicole's challenge.
There went any chance for a written post, because I'm meeting a good friend
at an informal jam session of music and hula at the Royal Grove.
I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces and friends!

My portrait of G. W. F. Hegel based on a photo in Philosophy Now: The Ultimate Guide Issue 7, Ancient Greek Philosophy. For some reason Hegel's portrait spoke to me. No mapping grid this time. I only had 40 minutes of which 20 I spent erasing. π

For Tom ~ A Beautiful Mural ~ It is painted in the parking lot of Margaritas where we celebrated our friends' birthdays at 808 Sheridan Street. I could not find any reliable information about the mural or who the artist was. The neighborhood around Sheridan Street and nearby Kaka‘ako has become known for vibrant street art and murals. Business owners will sometimes commission artists to paint murals on their properties. The meaning of the information in the lower left is unknown, except the mural may be called "Blume."

My evening at the Royal Grove with my friends was wonderful.
The songs and dances are not professional, only spontaneous presentations.
One week a few musicians and dancers may come, or, like last night, many.
Each person in turn chooses a song, and everyone plays, sings, or dances.
They all participate for the love of Hawaiian language, music, and dance.
Here is one video I took. The link will take you to the video on YouTube,
if the play button doesn't work.
Note: My computer still needs some serious repair work, and I may be without it this week.
Have a great weekend!

Happy hour for dogs - of course! Looks like you are having a great time.
ReplyDeleteI am, Alex! It's my other life, which is completely different from my Colorado life. Happy weekend, my friend!
Delete...Louise, thanks for sharing your week in paradise. You certainly have made many friends to enjoy the Aloha Spirit with. the bright spot is the mural by artist Kamea Hadar, titled "Blume." Be well and merry!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tom! I thought you'd enjoy the beautiful stingray mural. Thanks for mentioning Kamea Hadar. I wasn't 100% positive he was the painter, because I found conflicting information. One said Lawrence Ho was the artist, but he is likely the one who commissioned the piece. I should have gone out and asked the guy working in and around the parking lot. If we get back to Margaritas, I plan to ee if I can find out more. Aloha, my friend!
DeleteIt makes me feel happy and warm just reading this. (It's 0 here this morning.) Well done on your portrait and what an interesting subject! Royal Grove sounds like my kind of place!
ReplyDeleteThat's right ~ You and Rick love music and Rick is a musician. You'd love the Royal Grove! 0ΒΊF ~ My heart goes out to you! Stay warm and safe, my friend! ❤️
DeleteWhat a fun, jam-packed post, Louise! I loved the poster for Yappy Hour at the Hideout! And you captured Hegel's square German face perfectly -- excellent drawing! I had a good laugh at your line about it taking "40 minutes of which 20 I spent erasing". I studied Hegel's political philosophy when I did my degree in political science, so this brought back memories, thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra! I was drawn to Hegel's portrait in "Philosophy Now" in an article in which Hegel was examining fragments of Heraclitus's work (Hegel admired Heraclitus). Baili inspired me to learn more about philosophy, and I'm sticking with it to challenge my brain. π Have a great weekend, my friend! ❤️
DeleteLovely portrait!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! Happy weekend, my friend! ❤️
DeleteFundy, thanks for linking to Art For Fun Friday

DeleteThanks for the warm tour on a chilly, Floriday - hey, I just invented a new word! I enjoyed two trips to Hawaii and did some wandering around Waikiki when we stayed in Kahala. The uke player on the left cracked me up, with her shoes off and her feet planted on top of them! Oh, I know how she feels!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dreaming! Informality is one reason I love the Royal Grove jam sessions. It's relaxed and authentic. Happy weekend, my friend! ❤️
DeleteWonderful post! You are such a great artist! I love the dogs enjoying "Yappy Hour"! xx
