IWSG Day: Wednesday, September 2, 2026 ~. Happy 15th Anniversary to the Insecure Writer's Support Group

It's the first Wednesday of the month,
the day that members of the
Insecure Writer's Support Group
share their writing struggles
and writing successes
and offer their encouragement
and support to fellow writers.

Our wonderful co-hosts who are volunteering today,
along with IWSG Founder Alex J. Cavanaugh are

Stop by their posts and thank them for hosting.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every month the IWSG announces a question that members can answer
with advice, insight, a personal experience, or a story in their IWSG posts.
Or, the question can inspire members
if they aren't sure what to write about on IWSG Day.
Remember the question is optional.
This month's optional question is:
Do you have a favorite character archetype you tend to gravitate toward in your writing?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy September, Everyone!
I hope that August has been good to you!
Terry and I have been traveling, and I have taken a break from blogging
until Friday, September 25th.

Congratulations to the Insecure Writer's Support Group on its 15th Anniversary!
I have been a member almost since its beginning.
It's no secret that I love this community and have many friends in it.
I appreciate all the support and encouragement each of you has given me over the years.
Here's to the next 15 years and beyond!  🥂

Let's celebrate by buying a few new books from among our members.
One way to support a number of members at once is to purchase one of our anthologies.
We have published seven:

For example, Voyagers: The Third Ghost is an historical fiction anthology
that features ten adventure stories set in different places and different time periods.

The anthology includes my short story "Dare, Double Dare"
which is a time-travel tale set in the early1600s in Nova Scotia, Canada.
A sister and a brother goad each other into something completely unexpected
centuries earlier at the French Habitation at Port-Royal.

You can enjoy ten great stories and support ten members
by purchasing the book here:

Or pick a person or two from among our members and buy a book of theirs.
I have read many members books, and we have wonderful authors in our group.
Let's support each other!

Which leads me to this month's question.
I decided to refer to Carl Jung's character archetypes based on his psychological theories.
Since I'm writing a memoir, I went with his The Innocent archetype
in his Freedom Group (To Yearn for Paradise),
because I connect most with The Innocent in my writing and in my life.

The Innocent begins his or her journey in a safe sheltered world, but is confronted by
a sudden crisis exposing him or her to evil, corruption, or harsh realities.
How does this impact his or her journey through life?
Story of my memoir!  Story of my life!

I will be back in a fuller capacity (🤞The Optimist in me!) for the October IWSG Day.
I will visit everyone who visits me this month in October.
And I'm looking forward to see what archetype you gravitate toward in your writing.

  6. Hope your travels are still going good and you won big money lol

    I tend more toward the fish out of water archetype. Regular person stuck in situations that make them do or die.

  7. I barely remember August, even though it was a long month. The Innocent. Always a good one, and an emotional one.

  12. What a wonderful journey you summarize here . . . those photos really connect to the thoughtful description of the archetypes that appeal to you. Yes, especially today, we should support other IWSG writers. Thank you for the reminder!

  13. Happy Anniversary! The Innocent is such a great one, and it fits right in with the fish-out-of-water trope, which is one of my favorites. Enjoy your time off!

  14. Happy Birthday to IWSG! And I hope the optimist in you is right on target. :)

  15. As always, I love your travel photos, Louise. I, also, am truly blessed to be a part of IWSG. You and many others are true friends to me. I purchased the Voyagers book. I'll leave a review as soon as I finish reading it. Be warned. I've got quite a few new books to read. Love you, dear friend!

  17. I thought I knew most of the Jungian archetypes, but "the innocent" is new to me. Kind of sounds like the story of my life, too. Very sheltered childhood, and then the real world came for us.

  18. Happy Anniversary to you two youngsters! Based on what I know about your childhood from your previous blog posts, The Innocent makes complete sense. Hope you have a great September. I'll be happy to see you when you return.

    Love,
    Janie

  19. Fifteen years of the IWSG is a remarkable achievement, and your reflection on The Innocent archetype beautifully captures the resilience, hope, and personal growth that can emerge from life’s unexpected challenges.

  20. precious friend Louise !
    your post is brilliantly and beautifully done ❤️
    first of all thank you for the link so i could see many amazing writers and got familiar with their writings 🙏
    i LOVED how you shared your thoughts while responding to the question 👍
    i could so relate to your answer and The Innocent phenomenon .It made me bit emotional and i realised that suddenly i was able to understand reason why you named your blog Standing IN to the danger 🥹
    yes it is true and honest answer and touches the heart of an other innocent instantly .
    the only transformation i took was stop seeing the world in strict concept of good and bad and it made things easier for me !
    heartfelt best wishes and Happy 42nd anniversary to you and dear Terry my friend ! love ,hugs and prayers to you and loved ones🥰

  22. Hi!!
    I hope you had a great time travelling!
    I love the innocent too. It was a favorite from the time I was a child. Aren't most Disney princesses and superheroes just like that?

  23. ...I'm afraid that 15 years and beyond is out of reach for me.!

  24. Happy anniversary and have a fantastic time!

  25. I hope you're enjoying your travels! I remember being the Innocent and trying to learn how to navigate a decidedly not-innocent world. Lots of story potential in that archetype.

  27. Dear Louise, this is a personal message for you! My cherished friend, the Blogger news reader was totally dead for over a week. Since yesterday, it has been back up, so Google is really working to fix the issues...however, it is kind of sporadic and unreliable. Not that it has been totally reliable over the last several months, but anyway. LOL! So I just wanted to send you a message to let you know that I am thinking of you, that I miss you and I didn't want to lose our connection (as I am sure has happened with several bloggers due to the way the news reader has been).
    I hope you are doing well, dear friend, and I am sending you love, a hug and best wishes.

  28. Again, this message is just for you, Louise. Here is a kind comment you left on my blog (my old blog at Linda's Peaceful Place on February 16, 2015

    Linda, I was so sorry to hear about your lost camera, because I was wondering why you weren't posting photos of yours. I do hope one day, sooner rather than later, you'll be able to get a new one. I am so glad that you decided to keep going with your blog. You bring laughs and happiness to me every day. And to lots of other people. Even though life dropped a lemon in your lap, you took that lemon and made lemonade. Hugs to you!
