Déjà Vu

Aloha again from rainy Honolulu!
It's been raining frequently since Tuesday evening again,
and we are under a flash flood warning again until Sunday evening.
Periodically we get a glimpse of sunshine, but that again remains a tease.

Meanwhile we continue to make the best of it.
We had one lovely day with sunshine, and we spent it with our friends Kathy and Bruce.
I went to school with Kathy in Wolfville High School in 1963-64.
She was in my brother's class, and we reconnected in Honolulu several years ago.
She has lived here a long time, and we marveled at how we two Bluenosers
ended up spending so much time in Honolulu, of all places.

We spent Monday afternoon exploring the Koko Head area
with its beautiful craters of welded tuffs and basalts along a rugged seacoast,
followed by dinner at Kathy and Bruce's home.
It's a day I'll always remember.

For Tom ~ Hula ~ Hula is the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people, a sacred cultural practice that connects Hawaiians to their history, ancestors, and spirituality.  My kumu hula says that even if you are not Hawaiian, your ancestors are with you when you dance.  I love to watch Kapiolani dance.  Her face is filled with the joy and power of the dance.

Just a few days left!
The rain is supposed to stop Sunday night,
so we're hoping to visit our favorite outdoor spots on Monday.
Then Tuesday it's home to balmy Colorado.
Yes, it's warmer there than here. 😂

  3. Happy belated birthday Louise. Sorry there is so much rain, and it might feel tight in a small space-at least it would for my hubby and myself as he would get antsy. But when the sun is out it looks amazing. We decided a couple of weeks ago we are going back to Nova Scotia for a few days in the fall as we enjoyed it so much last fall. Then we're heading off to Prince Edward Island too. I can't wait. Have a super first day of spring.

    1. Thanks, Erika! I am looking forward to more space when we get home. 😄 It's awesome that you're going back to NS and PEI in the fall. Happy spring to you!

  4. Happy Birthday, Louise! And they do love their bread puddings in Hawaii, don't they? I used to eat this beautiful, extremely indulgent pineapple and macadamia nut bread pudding at a little hole-in-the-wall place in Lahaina, Maui before it burned down.

    1. Thanks, Debra! That Lahaina bread pudding sounds fabulous. If I ate bread pudding as much as I wanted too, I'd be the size of a whale. 😂 Enjoy spring!!!

  6. BIg birthday greetings! I can tell it was happy. And I'm glad you got a day of sun. Was it rainier this year than usual? Seems like it. The weather is off everywhere!

    1. Thanks, Jeanie! Yes, it's much rainier, the worst locals can remember. Last Friday the Honolulu airport recorded more rain than in any single day in 75 years. ~ 5.51 inches. And tomorrow it's supposed to be 92º F at our home in Colorado. Unreal. Wishing you a happy and healthy spring weekend!

  7. Oh bless you! I once sent a couple on their honeymoon to Hawaii in March. It rained every day it was there but they were so sweet, taking photos with their umbrellas! As you say, make the most of it! Aloha!!

    1. Aloha, Kay! I hope you are doing well. We can't control the weather. We spent our honeymoon in the Olympic Peninsula, and it poured throughout our time there. We had a great time, like your honeymoon couple. It's pouring now, with a lot more rain expected tonight. But I don't care. We're having drinks and watching the original Star Trek. We have lots of plans for our last three nights, so t's good to be home. Happy weekend to you! 🌺❤️🌺

  9. Even beneath shifting skies, your day around Koko Head and the spirit of Hula capture something enduring—friendship, memory, and a deep, almost ancestral sense of belonging.

  10. Except for the building you could be here with all of the rain. LOL Believe me you don't want to be here, Hawaii so much better. It's nice that you have long life friends that to meet up with. So many wonderful photos. I put your link in for FFO and thank you so much.

  11. Wow, how next week is better weather.
    Enjoyed your photos

  12. That is rare that it is warmer in Colorado than there. I saw pictures of some of the flooding on one of the islands there. In some ways rain is worse than stupid snow.

Have a good time with friends is the best indeed. Weird where people can meet up after so many years too.

Hope you had a happy birthday. One step closer to triple digits haha
