On Reading

I must read every single day.
I cannot remember a time when I couldn't read.
Reading is one of the greatest joys in my life.

When I think about heaven, I think about a library containing all the books that exist,
and the time to read them.
Is that sacrilegious?
I don't know.  But it is a hope of mine.

I've been running from behind all year,
but I've finally posted the books I've read so far this year.

I read every book at least twice:
the first time for the narrative, the second for how the author constructed it.
Right now I have at least four books I'm reading,
not to mention several magazines.
It's ridiculous!  😂

I visit Barnes & Nobles almost every week.
I look forward to my special time all week long.
I settle in with a grilled cheese sandwich, coffee, and a stack of magazines and books.
It's my happy place.

  1. ...reading has always been difficult for me, I'm sure that I'm dyslexic. I am always read articles on the internet, but I can't remember the last time that I read a novel!

  2. I do love to read although I don't read fast. I at least read my Bible every single day.

  3. I've been a reader from almost my first memory and visit the library often. I love to read book series, so try to check out several books in the series so I can read them in order. I've had lupus for nearly 30 years, so the fatigue makes me often sit, so I read!
    Wishing you well!

    1. Thanks, Barbara Anne! Lupus is a terrible thing to contend with. I'm glad that reading brings you comfort. Thanks for visiting. All the best!

  4. Dear Louise
I loved how you shared your love and passion for reading 🥹
Even just a word “reading “ sparks my soul solely . I read a lot in my early life I spent in my native town. The only reason I can’t read regularly is lack of time and secondly the long extremely hot summers when Just breathing feels a labour honestly. But in my heart I feel roaring desire for reading throughout my days .
I have often thought about what if someone lock me in the library and loses the key !
I believe my happy place is just like yours, full of books and cup of tea.
You are fortunate to be able to read as many books as you want to dear Louise and it makes me feel happy and grateful for you 🥰♥️🙏

    1. Thanks, Baili! I'll never be able to read all the books I want. 😭 But I read as many as I can. 😂 I'm sorry that you experience such heat. It's hard for me to imagine. I know Pakistan is hit harder from climate change than just about any other country. The word "reading" sparks my soul too. Here's to a pile of books for each of us with tea for you and coffee for me! ❤️🌺❤️

    1. You are very devoted, like my friend Alex, Baili. I just finished reading the New Testament, and I'm looking for a Bible. I have one that my father gave me when I was a baby, but it was cheap and it is old and hard to read. So I'm reading a lot of philosophy. That's your fault! 😂 I spotted a copy of "The History of Philosophy" by A. C. Grayling when I was donating books to the library the other day. It's going to be a s.l.o.w read, but a worthwhile one. Fortunately I can renew the book a number of times, and I don't think it's in demand. 😂 Happy reading whenever you can get the chance, my dear friend! ❤️ 📚 ❤️ 📖 ❤️

    1. A little piece! 😂. I snuck yet another book into the house when I arrived home this afternoon. I'm never going to get through all the books I've bought, yet alone the others I still want to read. I hope that you are enjoying your weekend, my friend!

  7. Oh, I have at least 5 books parallel, paper and kindle. I love reading on the balcony in summer, in winter on the swing. Sadly with my hurting back it´s DVDs these days...

  9. Your idea of heaven sounds just like mine. I love to read! I used to "pretend" to read the signs on the road before I learned to read and I remember my Daddy laughing at what I came up with! Now, I read a great deal that is on the computer from many sources. I drive myself crazy looking stuff up. New books are not my favorite, lots of them have a funny smell. Is it the new ink? What do you think?

  10. I have to say Good for you for all of the ready you get in. I used to read a lot, ( not as much as you) but my eyes won't allow it any longer. I listen to stories and audio books. But it's not he same as hold a book, or the fragrance of the pages. I love the photos today. Your sister reading to the kids and you all happy on the couch reading. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a very nice weekend.

  11. I too am a reader ... maybe not as voracious as you and I spend most of my reading time in mysteries ... but then occasionally I read something educational and or political. Truth be known though, I just love mysteries. So, I see you are reading "FEAR" by Robert Woodward ... is it good? Would you recommend it? And I am sure it is not sacrilegious to hope there is a library in Heaven ... so isn't heaven supposed to be what you want it to be in your heart ? Just sayin' Love all your neices and nephews ❤️

  12. I read almost every day. Just if I have a crazy day I don't read. And I have multiple books going at the same time too. But I must say I am impressed you read every book twice. I do reread books, but usually after some time has passed and I want to be back into a story. I like your idea of heaven too. I hope it is like that, and I hope all my dogs and cats are there to great me and cuddle up near me while I read. And of course I'd like to see all those special people too, but I am not super religious so I don't think the religious part would make me happy. And that's what heaven should do, right? I am going to go look for your book post. Have a super rest of your weekend.

  13. I don't think there is a single day in the past 60 years where I didn't read. This love affair has been going on since I was able to read and so far it has never disappointed me. I'm quite impressed that you read every book twice. I do re-read books after a certain time. Nowadays I mostly read my Kindle - I have a huge library there and I love that I can always have it with me - but I also still read "real" books. My husband got me a Kindle several years ago because he hated me reading in bed with my nightlight on because he couldn't sleep. So he gave me a Kindle Paperwhite - no more light that prevented him from his dreams. And I can dream until 2 in the morning if I like. I see in your list "Tell me everything" by Elizabeth Strout - how did you like it? Would you recommend it? I read her "Olive Kitteridge" and didn't like it very much, so I'm a bit hesitant. I just got her newest novel "The Things we Never Say" because the topic sounded interesting to me.

  14. I love that photo of you reading. I love to read too -- always have from childhood on. And I'm happy to read anywhere -- the car, a waiting room, anywhere at home and especially at the lake, preferably on the porch if it's lovely, by the fire if it's not. I love finding kindred spirits online.

  15. I used to love going to Barnes & Noble and reading a little bit. It's very soothing and peaceful in there. But I can't really do it anymore because the kids want to just go look at toys or whatever and there is absolutely no chance I'm going to have any peace 😩

  16. I tend to go to the more writing side for my happy place. I enjoy reading though, and in one form or another I do it most every day.

Reading every book twice though, hmm unless I'm editing, likely not. Unless for the kids, I've read the same ones dozens of times for them in their younger days.

They're still not moving on from the duckling FYI lmao

  17. I LOVE your idea of heaven. I do read some books twice. You always get that ah-ha moment that you didn't notice the first time.
