It's the first Wednesday of the month,
the day that members of the
Insecure Writer's Support Group
share their writing struggles
and writing successes
and offer their encouragement
and support to fellow writers.
To visit the IWSG website, click here.
To become a member of the IWSG, click here.
Our wonderful co-hosts who are volunteering today,
along with IWSG founder Alex Cavanaugh are:
Dolorah@Book Lover, Christopher D. Votey, Tanya Miranda, and Chemist Ken.
I hope you have a chance to visit today's hosts and thank them for co-hosting.
I'm sure they would appreciate a visit and an encouraging comment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every month the IWSG poses a question
that members can answer with advice, insight,
a personal experience, or a story in their IWSG posts.
Or, the question can inspire members
if they aren't sure what to write about on IWSG Day.
Remember the question is optional.
This month's featured question is:
How do major life events affect your writing?
Has writing ever helped you through something?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last month I attempted to complete an IWSG post on my iPhone
on a train in Southern England and had a frustrating time of it.
I finally posted something after being locked out
of my Google account for several days.
This month it's all good!
I'm home.
I have my computer.
I have internet.
I don't need electrical adapters.
I didn't gain any weight as I traveled in England and Italy,
and I scrambled up any keep, tower, dome, or cliff I tackled.

Our home was fine when we returned,
except for a chirping smoke detector in the guest bedroom.
Terry caught a lousy cold on the flight home,
but he crawled under his own, welcome bedcovers and is on the mend.
As I said, it's all good.
Terry and I had lots of fun and many adventures in Europe,
but when Denver popped up on the cockpit view map
on our Norwegian Airline flight back,
we were grateful and excited at the prospect of home.

I'd like to report that I'm enthusiastically binging on writing,
but the truth is that I've been pushing through unpacking,
loads of laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning,
a crate of mail, statements in three currencies,
and taking care of the Not-So-Patient Grumpy Cat who shares my life.
Not-So-Patient Grumpy Cat
I have no clue where I originally found this meme.
It's all over the internet.
My goal is to be back on a writing schedule by Monday.
I managed to write at least 100 words in my journal most days of our trip,
and I have a visual journal of some 8,000 photographs.
Most of all, I have wonderful memories of the best time with Terry.
That is the most important thing of all.

As for this month's IWSG question,
major life events always bring my writing to a complete stop.
Something major demands my full attention and participation.
It's afterwards that I turn to writing to understand
these experiences and the emotions they evoke.
Wishing everyone a great IWSG Day.
I look forward to visiting and reading your posts!
Happy writing in October!
It's all good!

Phew, even the thought of being that high gives me shivers. So glad you came home safely, and can be happy with all internet, own bed, own laundry, and all else.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jean! It's wonderful to be home! I'm happy to be back online and to start catching up with all my cyber buddies. My head is bursting with things to process and absorb from our travels. I'll be spending the morning in the waiting room of Speedy Roo while the mechanics work on my car; so hopefully I can get some visiting about in while there. All the best to Hugh and you!
DeleteTablets and phones are good for surfing Facebook and Twitter and watching Netflix, but I can't really "write" on either.
ReplyDeleteApparently I can't really write on them either, Adam! I didn't take my computer on our trip because I had just gotten it back after accidentally leaving it at the Halifax airport on my last trip. And then there are all the stairs, cobblestones, shuttles, buses, and trains in Italy that make us take the smallest bags we can while traveling there. I thought of you and Daisy many times during our last trip. I saw so many historical things, and I'm sure that you would have enjoyed and appreciated them as much as I did. I hope that you and Daisy are all right after the hurricane. I'll be catching up on your posts and hopefully I'll hear good news there. Take care!
DeleteSure could see it all from up there. Ugg to crummy colds, they are never fun. Hopefully his germs go away quick and you can be on your next trip some slick. Making the memories is the best part indeed. I'd never write a post on my phone, the cat would go dark before that haha
ReplyDeleteHey, Pat! Where you're at! That was the first and the last time I will write a post on my phone ~ Lesson learned, thank you, Universe. I'm still chasing that illusive goal of getting posts written in advance ~ LOL! Not smart and together like the Cat! Thankfully we're home for a little while. I think saguaro cacti are on our next horizon ~ but Terry is off to Vegas in a couple of weeks. I could have gone with him, but I'm still hugging all my things and kissing our floor, so I passed. Traveling is what I live for, but returning home is always amazing. Have a good one, my friend!
DeleteThat is a lot of photos! Wow. Glad you had a great time. You'll get back into writing now that you're home.
ReplyDeleteHey, Alex! I'm behind on everyone's posts, so I don't know how you fared during the hurricane. I hope that you came through all right. It's hard to dodge a hurricane. People we met in Europe were always asking about the hurricane and if our family and friends were okay. Yes, 8,000 is a lot of photos. My camera is an extension of my right hand. I have pictures, and then I have many shots of information, so I can remember what I was looking at and precisely where I was. We saw so much that my brain is swirling. This is where writing will help me understand it all. Have a great IWSG Day! It's the only thing on my calendar today, except for getting some maintenance work done on my car. I'm certainly looking forward to visiting around.
DeleteLooks like you had an amazing time :-) Happy IWSG day!
ReplyDeleteRonel visiting on Insecure Writer's Support Group day: Course Correction
Happy IWSG Day back at you, Ronel! I had THE BEST TIME! Now to absorb it all. Thanks for adding a link in your comment. I'm going to piggyback on your idea. Sometimes I get frustrated because it's so hard to reply to a comment when I can't find the commenter's post easily. Have a good one!
DeleteWelcome home, Louise! Sounds like a marvelous trip. And I love Florence so those photos made me want to go back again!
ReplyDeleteHi, Debra! I hope all is well with you and your Rare One! Terry and I did have the best trip. This was my first time in Florence, and I fell in love with it. We barely scratched the surface of the city. It has so many treasures to see, great places to eat and drink, and we met kind and friendly people. Before we left the city, I was already making plans to return ~ Can't wait to go back. If things go according to plans (dare I tempt the universe?), I'll be posting about Florence in the near future. Have a good one!
DeleteYes! Get back to your writing schedule. I think I'm the opposite of an acrophobic. Love heights. Spiders and elevators, not so much.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
Hi, Teresa! I will get back to my writing ~ just a few more Must Dos to shovel through. I envy your enjoyment of heights. It's taken me a lifetime to reach the point where I could look over the fence around the cupola; and I admit, I was woozy. I've struggled with acrophobia throughout my life, but I've gotten much better. I've been rescued from trees, a forestry fire tower, cliff faces, and mountain ridges, shaking and sobbing. But I keep going back. I don't like spiders much either ~ No problems with elevators, although I knew someone once who was paralyzed in a fall when he stepped through open elevator doors and there was no elevator. Have a good one, my friend!
DeleteWhat a glorious adventure. Writing takes experience and you got out and enjoyed some life experience.
ReplyDeleteOh it was, Diane ~ the best time! I live to travel, but it's always great to get back to reality. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat looks like an amazing trip! Good luck on getting back into it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! Good luck wishes are always appreciated! Happy writing to you!
DeleteHey, after a trip like that, you're allowed to take a short break from writing. To be honest, though, if I were were surrounded by that many towers and keeps, I'd want to start writing right then and there. It's the perfect place to write. Welcome back home!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ken! It's good to be home. I go from dawn till midnight when we're traveling, and then I crash. I'll have to write about the towers and keeps now! Take care! Thanks for visiting!
DeleteHi Louise!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThose are some great photos! Oh wow..Italy. I"m envious! I've never been and likely never will because of my silly fear of flying, but that's okay. Everything I ever want is here in my home. :) I know what you mean about yours and Terry's lives and memories being the most important thing for you.! xx
Thanks, Rain! I'm sorry to hear that you are afraid of flying. I actually love it, although the rock and roll bumps coming off the Rocky Mountains into Denver took some getting used to. I thought of you a lot in England and Italy because I was sampling fabulous cheeses. I'm slowly catching up, and I'll be around soon. It's lovely to see you! Take care!
DeleteMy goodness! It seems this major event has put your writing on hold. I foresee a ton of writing stemming from your European trip. :-D
ReplyDeleteWelcome home my friend! I am so happy everything went well! Amazing trip! I LOVE the pictures!! You two are so adorable! Big Hugs!
