I'm linking to Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date, Tom's Aloha Friday, and Nicole's Friday Face Off.
For Rain: Clay ~ My favorite photos I've taken of clay are in the Mud Volcano area of Yellowstone National Park. This is a fascinating place containing some of the most acidic thermal features in the park. The air carries the pungent smell of rotten eggs, and the hillsides are dotted with trees injured or killed by steam.
Hydrogen sulfide rises from the Yellowstone Magma Chamber below, and microorganisms (thermophiles) convert the gas to sulphuric acid. The acid breaks down the area's rhyolitic rock into clay minerals which mix with water with to form the mud.
How thick the mud is depends on how much water is available. The water comes from rain and snow that seeped underground, was heated by hot gases from the magma, and forced upward by pressure. The bubbles in the mudpots are caused by other gases rising from the magma chamber.
The Mud Volcano and the Old Faithful areas are two resurgent domes which rise up and down with fluctuations in the magma chamber below. Scientists observe this activity closely because of the danger of future volcanic eruptions.

It was sprinkling when I took the photo.

For Tom: Aloha ~ The Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort has a fun new sand sculpture of a green sea turtle family in its lobby. Kai, his mother Mahina, and his father Keoki are mascots for the resort. Locals regard green sea turtles, or honu, as symbols of prosperity and good luck. Once common in Waikiki's waters, they are currently considered a "threatened species." Fortunately their nesting numbers are increasing 3 to 5 percent statewide in recent years. The sculptures were created by Sandsational Sand Sculpting.
For Nicole: Feathered Face! ~ Birds are everywhere, especially if there's a chance for a bit of food. I am particularly fond of sparrows.
See you next time! ❤️🌺🍀
Till next time ~

...Louise, thanks for taking around to see these fabulous sights on this dark, moody winter morning. I'd like a burger in paradise, to enjoy a sunset, flowers and trees. Be sure to have your sunscreen.
ReplyDeleteYou know what, Tom? I'd love to have you and your Sweetie here and take you out to the Hideout for burgers and drinks. I'm a little sun shy. I can swim for about a half an hour and then run for cover ~ no sunscreen. As someone told me years ago, brown fat looks better than white fat ~ lol! Now that my thyroid is normal again, my weight has been creeping up. 😱 But that's okay. Every day is a gift! Hugs to you, my friend! Aloha!
DeleteThe picture of the trees is cool.
ReplyDeleteI thought so, Alex! I feel privileged to walk on the Hale Koa grounds where the blue banyan tree is. This is an R&R spot for our service men/women and veterans whom I honor with everything in me. I come from a long line of veterans on both sides of our borders. It is a deep regret of mine that I didn't serve in the Armed Forces. My gratitude to those who serve and have served is boundless. Have a great weekend, my friend!
DeleteYour photos make me feel like I'm in Hawaii again! I was just talking not too long ago with friends about the big banyan tree in Lahaina, Maui, and how it miraculously survived the fire.
ReplyDeleteSuper photos from Hawaii, Louise; thank you for sharing 💓
DeleteHave a wonderfu weekend and upcoming Mach 💐😘
I have to get back to Maui, Debra, to honor the tree if nothing else. Not happening this trip. 😭 You have a wonderful weekend too! Hugs and love to you!
DeleteWe stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village many years ago.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I haven't stayed there yet, but I surely enjoy their fireworks every Friday. It's Friday ~ AGAIN ~ and Terry and I will be enjoying them again in about an hour. Slow down the clock please! 😂 Have a great weekend! ❤️
DeleteI've never much had the yen to go to Hawaii -- until I saw all your fun posts and photos. Always wonderful and enticing! Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jeanie! I'm glad that my photos are inspiring people about the beauties of the islands I love so much! Happy weekend and love to you! ❤️
DeleteWow what a beautiful post. I miss Hawaii. There is something so special about being there. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful weekend too, Nicole! I keep you and Mr. M in my thoughts and prayers every day. I feel helpless, so I have to say a lot of prayers! I love Hawaii, and I already miss it, even though I'm still here. 😂 Hugs and love to you!
DeleteThat burger makes me so hungry. The sunset is epic. Then the thermal wonders in your photo series
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I made you hungry, Roentare! If you were here, I'd love to take you out for a burger and drinks at the Hideout. Have an awesome weekend, my friend!
DeleteYou really make me want to be in Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteI wish you were here, Mae! Have a great weekend! ❤️
DeleteYou shared some great photos Louise. I feel like I'm walking around Honolulu enjoying the scenery. And it looks great. Especially since I'm expecting a little snow at my house tonight. Happy March to you.
ReplyDeleteOh Lord, snow. I'm sending you tropical sunshine and love. Stay warm and safe! ❤️🌺
DeleteHello, Everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy apologies, I had to spend the day at Social Security in Honolulu dealing with a complicated problem. I have to speak up in support of our federal workers when they are being trashed, threatened, and thrown out by DOGE. I am heart sick over it. The people I interacted with at the national and state (Colorado and Hawaii) levels (4 people in 40 some hours), and in person in Honolulu today treated me professionally and pleasantly, and they did their best to help me ~ Even as they must be worried sick about their jobs and futures.
Then, to have to deal with what happened in the Oval Office today! I am appalled by what happened and ashamed to be an American. When I think of the generations of my family during many wars on both sides of the US-Canadian border who fought for freedom and democracy, were killed, drowned, maimed, burned, paralyzed, shell-shocked over generations, I am almost speechless. They were deeply betrayed, and I feel deeply betrayed. I need to stand up for our allies, for the order and peace my family members sacrificed for. This is an America I don't recognize.
I agree. I decided to go ahead and apply for Social Security (I've held off for over a year and a half after being eligible for full benefit while still able to work). But with the cuts, I decided to get myself on the system and the person I worked with was wonderful. While I thanks her over and over, I kept thinking I should encourage her for what they're having to endure, but then decided not to say anything in case the call was being recorded.
DeleteYou make everything look so tempting. I may have to move Hawaii up on my Bucket List. My son and his wife (who are my usual travel companions) have been to Hawaii (without me, mind you), so I will have to talk them into a repeat visit. I think if I use your photos, I may be able to do it :) So glad you lead such a wonderful life and are free to travel ... it couldn't happen to a nicer person :)

Quiet the colorful sights indeed. That tree is really neat. Kitty is giving you quite the glare lol did you take the sailing lessons too? The tiki man is kinda umm happy haha
ReplyDeleteWell said and I stand with you and thank you for pursuing and speaking out. We all need to do the same and make it known that the American people don't support what is happening in Washington. I believe even the people who voted for Mr. Trump are having regrets or will have regrets when all the slash and burn reaches them or their pocket books. This is not the America any of us grew up in and it is up to us to take it back.

Oh and as for your post ... the pictures are wonderful. I am a bird lover so I loved your shots of the birds in Hawaii. I am also a cat lover, so I loved the picture of Little Laki. The sand sculpture is amazing and the flowers are beautiful. As I said before, I moved Hawaii up on my Bucket List ... now I can only hope I can make it there. The views, the sunset and ... the clay in Yellowstone (another place I haven't been). I sometimes worry about Yellowstone erupting, but I still want to see it before it goes (as we will all probably go if it erupts). Always enjoy my visits with you, Louise ...
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
Love your photos (and the excision to Yellowstone). Are there any good hot springs in Hawaii?
ReplyDeleteI thought those sand sculptures were Pokémon
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos dear Louise 🥰
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed each bit you your collection ♥️
With fast I maybe forget to mention something but every click was carrying a feeling of joy and excitement.from evening lights to morning visitors so delightful 😍
I loved the old sparrow particularly because I grew up seeing birds of this specie in my native village 🥹♥️
Here they appeared rarely, almost none. The turtle family in lounge of the restaurant looks special 😇♥️
We have watched the hot springs in travel videos but the clay and hot mud no. Picture defines the activity of volcanic underground.
This is astonishing people still stick their their area 🫣
How nice you too ocean boat my friend 👌♥️
Are you too taking sailor lessons as well?
Cat is captured stunningly wow
Love the sunset, awesome ☺️
Hope to and Terry are doing great by the grace of God !
Best wishes and lots of love to you 🥰♥️
