Retirement

Standing Into Danger ...

I never want to retire from life.
From growth.
Or from the renewing of my mind.                 Oprah 2012

June 7, 2012 was my first day of retirement, but it didn't feel real until today when my friends returned to their teaching assignments for a new school year.  Now I am truly retired because I am not going back to the classroom.

Last night I read in the 2012 September issue of O Magazine Oprah's thoughts on retirement in What I Know for Sure (p. 204):  "I never want to retire from life.  From growth.  Or from the renewing of my mind."  These 16 words succinctly state what I hope my retirement will be.

The purpose of my blog is to write about my journey as I enter this new and exciting phase of my life.  I'm not sure where my journey will take me, but I am wide open to the experience.

My blog is called Standing Into Danger.  It's based on the nautical signal flag U illustrated above: credit:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Uniform.svg.

  2. Thanks for the words of encouragement, Ron! I have learned a lot, quickly, in the 10 days since you posted this comment. I've been in the doghouse, though, because I got carried away! Terry has called me "Overboard Louise" since before we were engaged and still does after 28 years of marriage. He was not a happy guy last weekend when I forgot to eat, sleep, and take care of important things. Everything is super now! I did't like being in the doghouse, but I probably deserved it!
