Oh Canada!

Divided Heart

Sometimes it's hard to be a Canadian American.
Especially during the Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics is my absolute favorite
sports event in the world,
and the 2014 Sochi games
have thrilled my Canadian American heart!

But, if it's Canada against the USA,
I have to root for Canada!
I just can't help myself.

It's primal.

  1. Both of our hockey teams blew it.
The winter games are my favorite. I enjoy the skiing and hockey. Enjoy the snowboarding as well.
Fitting that the last event was won by the Russians.
    Four more years...

    1. Hi Alex! I thought that it was great that the 50 k ski event was swept by the Russians too! It's always nice for the home country fans to see a good win by their athletes. There isn't a winter event I don't enjoy, and I love the snowboarding and half pipe. I hope that your week has gotten off to a great start!

    1. Hi Martha! I was up at 4:45 a.m. to watch the gold medal hockey game, and it was great! With every goal we went up, the greater it got! I really like seeing the medals get spread around! And who doesn't love the Jamaican bobsled team? I hope you have a great week!

  4. Can't say I ever liked curling one bit. But glad they got gold in it. Beat the poor americans in hockey too that is fun to come due.

    1. Hi Pat! I used to dislike curling, but I find I'm really enjoying it a lot! Our NHL Avalanche hockey team had four players on four different teams (Canada, Russia, USA, and Sweden), and it was Matt Duchene who came home with the gold medal and bragging rights. Hockey is such a great game. I hope that you are having a great day and week!

    1. Thank you, Geo! It certainly was fun to watch and cheer! I was glued to the Olympics every day! The summer ones don't have nearly the same appeal for me. Someone at the bar and grill Friday night told me the Canadians did so well because it was so cold and icy in Canada! That really cracked me up. Have a great week!

    1. Hi Adam! I hated to see the Russians take the pairs gold medal in figure skating! But I was happy to see them sweep the last event because they were the host country, and that makes it fun for its fans. There have been two winter Olympics in Canada, and I know how much that meant to Canadians. It killed me that I was in my first year of teaching during the Calgary Olympics in 1988. That was my big chance to go. At least I had fun finding my family's faces as they attended the different events! Have a happy week!

    1. Hi GT! I guess your hours were off in Australia too. I'm a total Winter Olympics junkie! I hope you have been enjoying your summer days. Today, for the first time, I felt some spring in the air ~ even though we're supposed to get snow tomorrow. I think it's the changing light. Have a great week!

  13. We too were glued to TV for most of the past two weeks! My favourite is curling and Canada did not disappoint one bit! The Chinese men's team curled very well too.
As for hockey and even though 'Sid' is from the nearest community to us, I am not a hockey fan and do question the presence of professional hockey players in the Olympics. However I do like to watch a good game and the better game for me was Canada and the USA a few days before the gold medal game.
Oh yes, the new skiing event, Half pike and the extreme events were great to watch......I couldn't believe that they were skating BACKWARDS!!
It is quiet around here now without the games.
    Have a great week Louise.

    1. Hi Jim! I can't believe how popular curling is becoming! I mean CNBC preempted their regular programing from 4-7 p.m. every day for men's and women's curling. Canceling Jim Cramer and Larry Kudlow! Wow! I do like the hockey games, and I got up at 4:45 a.m. to watch the men's gold medal game ~ and the day before for the USA/Canada game. It was interesting because our NHL Avalanche hockey team had a player on each of the Russian, Swedish, American, and Canadian teams. I'm not sure about how I feel about the fact that they are professional players. I do find it exciting, and I'm a little ticked-off at the NHL owners for wanting to skip the Olympics in the future because they interfere with the NHL owners' business. The players seem to really enjoy representing their countries (of heritage), and I think it promotes the sport ~ so I'm torn. And I love the snowboard and skiing events ~ well I love it all! Skiing and snowboarding backwards is insane ~ but fascinating. It's a good thing that the games ended though, because I've been stacked up with all kinds of things. I need some serious slowdown time! I hope that you have been enjoying a great week, Jim! Hi to you all!
