Back to Reality!

Colorado welcomed us home from Honolulu
with a cold dose of reality.

This Morning's Latest Snowfall

Brilliant sunshine, Waikiki waves,

Diamond Head against a bright blue sky,

Green palm fronds swaying in a warm breeze

Colorful tropical flowers ~

All packed away with empty suitcases.

No more umbrellas
in my favorite mai tai.

No more umbrellas
at my favorite Mai Tai Bar.

Just memories of a wonderful time ~

Eleven months and counting ~
Can't wait to go back again!

  1. Since in never snows in Sydney snow always look romantic, but I'm not sure about day to day living. But Hawaii looks great did you stay in a hotel or self contained?

    1. Hey, Jill! Terry didn't find the snow romantic when he had to commute to work this morning, let me tell you! We stayed in a budget hotel which I'm going to post about in the near future.

  2. Quite the contrast! Snow can be quite beautiful for a period of time, but it gets really old when it sticks around for much too long. I can't blame you for being eager to go back to a warmer place where you can take strolls on the beach and NEVER have to shovel snow!

    1. Hi Martha! I so hate to shovel snow! I swear I've shoveled tons of snow in my lifetime, and a lot was shoveled at below zero temperatures! Snow or not, it's still great to be home! Have a good one!

  3. haha oh poor you, whatever will you do. No one deserves that much snow this time of year though, yuck.

    1. I knew you'd play the sympathy card, Pat! LOL! Yuck is right ~ but it will warm up tomorrow and start melting away. 'Til the next snowstorm! Have a good one, under your sun!

  4. Oh, my, bless your heart! Your photos are beautiful, both the Hawaiian ones as well as the snow ones. Hawaii seems like a dream (and for me, it is), but I so much appreciate your sharing photos! Thank you so much.

    1. Thank you, Linda! I have so much fun with photography, and it means a great deal to me when someone enjoys my work! It's wonderful to have a creative outlet where I can put my photos out into the world! Hawaii was a dream for me for a very long time. I have loved it since I was a small girl, so I am grateful that I have been able to visit it more than once. Take care!

    1. Thanks, Keith. When I woke up yesterday, I knew that I had to snap that snow and set it against the Hawaiian sun! Have a great weekend!

  7. OH NO! Does mother nature know it is April? I am glad you had a great time. Sorry you had to come back to more snow. I bet it feels colder than usual since you were in sunny weather. Stay warm!

  8. Thanks, Michelle! Our new snow is melting, but April is one of our snowiest months, so I suspect more will come! Have a great weekend!

  9. Louise! You know you can catch a cold going from cold to hot like that!! lol
Oh my, that snow must have been something to get reacquainted with!!
Fun post and well done......even if I was shivering a bit!

    1. Hey, Jim! Good to see you! I'm fighting lack of sleep and hopefully warding off a sniffle. Just back from Friday-Night-Date-NIght! Only merlot! Snow is melting, but has a way to go. Terry and I were sitting at Parkway discussing next March. Missing the tropics already. My trainer told me that there is paddleboarding on Aurora Reservoir, and my P.E. teacher from Sunrise goes paddleboarding a lot in Colorado and invited me to come with her ~ so I'm not going to have to wait until next year! Yipee! I just have to wait for spring. For part of yesterday morning it was a blizzard outside. Noreen has now had over 400 inches (+10 meters) of snow ~ but she leaves for London Monday. she has an Aussie female couple coming in to spend the next few months with Gracie and Rufus. I probably won't get to see them until after Paris, London, and Iceland! :( I'm going to be talking to Barb about Nova Scotia this weekend ~ hopefully ~ Her company is in the middle of a big move and she's stage manager for Pirates of Penzance! We'll see! Stop shivering ~ I have my space heater on as I type! Terry is going through major Hawaii withdrawal! LOL! Take care my friend, and please take care of my other two friends!

  10. Hello Fundy,
Where do I get the impression you are in love with Hawaii????
    Boy, do I understand you!
If you are having more or less the same dull weather we are having, viva tropical areas!!
I can't wait to sell our place and take off for Asia!
Lovely post with "extreme" photos!! :)
    Enjoy your WE!!

    1. Hey Noushka! You found me out! I really love Hawaii! Terry and I have discussed moving there, but we decided to keep it as a getaway place. It is isolated!
I've seen the pictures of your beautiful home on your blog. It must be hard to think of leaving, but how exciting to be looking forward to Asia! I love Asia! I've only seen bits and pieces of it, but it is a fascinating continent.
I'm being very lazy today, which is hard for me, but it is so enjoyable!
A close, close Roman Catholic friend of mine once recommended putting a statue of St. Joseph under the townhouse we had put up for sale. She sent me a little statue, and I stuck it under the porch. I was just humoring her, because I certainly don't believe such things. Well, that townhouse sold quickly, we got the highest price for a unit in that development, and just a few weeks later, the housing market began to tank and home prices for townhouses plunged! (2008) I still don't really believe in such things, but it was an uncanny coincidence. Maybe you should put a little statue of St. Joseph somewhere ~ You never know what might happen!
      Happy hunting with your camera!

  11. Flip Flip back and forth ~~ now I've got whiplash!! (in a good way though)

I can see why Hawaii has you both by the ~~~~ fill in the blanks! I remember when we had a trip to Paradise Island, Bahamas years ago (before the HUGE MONSTROSITY of vacation get-aways took over) we used just sit in the crushed coral (not sand) and float away looking at the waves / barracudas / clouds / feeling those Caribbean breezes. When I look at your photos (every alternate one though) I can feel all those wonderful feelings again. Many thanks!

Those cold pics of Colorado are just too familiar.......oh well, such is our life/s making the best of what you got, right!!!

Overcast here today ~~~ fingers crossed for sun ~~ I need some help with this so please feel free to check into your inner self and send some vibes and I'll do the same for you.

Psst: I'll send 99 more FB messages as soon as I can find some cool stuff for you. Nfld/L's advertisements are always the best, don't you tink!!!

    1. You've got me laughing, Ron! And I agree, Nfld/L's advertisements are genius! My Labrador Iceberg Alley post is still among my most popular blog posts.

Speaking of popular posts, a post of mine, over a year old, is suddenly getting a lot of hits. Well actually several of them are. And my HMS Bounty post steadily gets hits! It's fun, but so unexpected. Sometimes I miss new comments, because I'm always behind on email ~ and let's not even discuss FB! LOLOLOL!

We've been to Paradise Island too ~ before that pink monstrosity Atlantis was built. We loved it! But I wouldn't go back now.

And yes, we do love Hawaii. We stumbled across a funky, family-managed, little budget hotel closer to Waikiki than from the top floor of a lot of big resort hotels. It has a dedicated clientele that comes back every winter. With some careful, polite lobbying, we managed to book three weeks next March. The staff looks out for its regulars! Terry could spend three months there, but I said let's try for three weeks and see how it goes!

I'm glad that my photos invoke great and warm memories for you! Sending you tropical vibrations right now! I will continue to do so!

You are looking great in Jim's photos, which I am very happy to see! One step at a time, keep getting better. Never give up!

That's been my plan every time I land in the hospital back at GO! again. I always think of it as a Monopoly game. Instead of landing in jail, I land in the hospital. Knocked back to starting at GO! again, I just start walking one step at a time. And look at me ~ paddleboarding on the waves at Waikiki! Surfing is my next goal. So keep at it, my friend! I'm rooting for you all the way.

I'll try to get over to FB! Take care!

    2. Re: Hits on old posts ~~ check to see if they are legit or just spammers. I have noticed only because I click the "notify me" button on the bottom of each of your posts that you get a ton of anonymous spammers ~~ beware!

    3. Thanks for the heads up, Ron! I'm even worse at the notify me stuff than FB! I'm hopeless!

  14. I know everyone is oooing and ahhhing over the water pictures and feeling sorry for you being in the snow. I am kind of a weird duck. I much prefer the snow and am not a fan of oceans. Not at all. I was forced (my husband spoke) to live 50 feet from the ocean for 25 years and escaped every chance I had. Oceans are noisey and they disturb my peace of mind. But I really love that first winter picture. Lovely indeed. And I love Colorado. My best friend is settling in Boulder and it will be closer for us to see each other. One of my sons went to school in Colorado and Colorado sells pot. Not that I smoke but I would make oil out of it. Canabis is one of the greatest healing plants. Any way enjoy Colorado and it will soon be warm. This week we are having temps in the 60's.
    Adios

    1. Hi Manzanita! Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I was born in Nova Scotia, and the sea runs in my blood! Oceans calm me better than anything ~ and, oh my, do I love paddleboarding (which I tried for the first time last year at 63). But, I too, love snow ~ it's my hubby who hates it! I actually don't want to move from Colorado, but my husband thinks he does. We'll see. I'll have to look into canabis oils! I voted for every MJ issue that came before the Colorado voters! Have a good one!

My Rare One and I spent a couple of days in Honolulu the last time we were in Hawaii so it was nice to see Waikiki and Diamond Head again in your photos. Hawaii is such a wonderful place *sigh*
