    1. Hawaii makes it easy to have a grand time, Pat! Lots of mai tais help too! I sure hope that snow stops pounding Nova Scotia. I keep looking at Ron's and Jim's posts and shake my head at the heaps of snow. Take care!

  3. Such fab photos! I made it to the top of Diamond Head too -- by trolley, LOL! Happy Retirement wishes to your husband Terry, the lucky dog!

    1. Thanks, Debra! The lucky dog is also a happy dog! And I am loving having him home! All three times that I have climbed Diamond Head, I've started at the city bus stop at the base of the crater and walked up into it through the tunnel to reach the trailhead. I have looked longingly at those trolleys as they passed me by! Oh the joys of having a budget-minded traveling companion! If it were up to me, I'd ride that trolley too! But if I have to choose between a trolley and a couple of mai tais at the end of the hiking day, I pick the mai tais! LOL! Have a good one!

  4. when I was 7-10 we lived at Hickam AFB In Hawaii...the best time of my life..ever...I want to go back so I can see our old apt. it's still there..the tree I used to climb and hide is bigger and fuller than ever..they'd never be able to find me..I tell ever one I lived in Hawaii when it really was paradise..didn't wear shoes, occasionally I wore flip flops which the Hawaiians called 'go aheads'...swam at pool every day.. went to ocean and swam on the weekends..we always drove around the island..only had one highway then..these pictures really brought back wonderful memories...thanks...

    1. Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories, Jackiesue! How lucky you were to experience Hawaii then!
What a magical place to be 7-10! I hope that you do get back one day soon. I'm very good at blocking out the crowds and finding pockets of space when I can imagine what it must have been like. Have a great Wednesday!

    1. Hi Susie! That beach is generally referred to as Waikiki and is usually jam-packed with sun and water seekers. It's actually a string of beaches with different names. But what a beautiful spot and what fun frolicking in the waves! Have a great day tomorrow!

  7. Oh I love these Louise! So nice to see Hawaii! I'd love to go. I like your art work and the Japanese musicians are great! I wonder what type of Japanese music they are playing (I studied music traditions of the Far east as an elective at uni!)
Seriously, that giraffe!?!?!?! You made it up there!??!x

    1. Thanks, Kezzie! I know nothing about Japanese music. :( They were on a stage singing, dancing, and playing their instruments. Then they sat down and answered questions and posed for photos for the audience. Several hours later they marched in the Honolulu Festival Parade. I was amazed at their stamina, enthusiasm, and skill. The young guy front and center was full of energy and rhythm. He had a talent for connecting with the audience and the parade watchers. And a great smile!

Yes, a giraffe! So many times you see the iconic shot of Diamond Head from the waterfront. It was fun to shoot it from a different perspective at the Honolulu Zoo.

I've been to the top of Diamond Head three times. It's not nearly as bad as it looks. If you are in reasonable shape, the only challenging parts are the three sets of steep stairs. The last set is a tight spiral staircase straight up in a tunnel in the crater wall, and you come out through an old war bunker. It's so fun! The heat can be challenging! It's best to be on the trail by 7 am, if you don't like heat.
      Have a happy Wednesday! Hugs!

    1. Thanks, Jim. I went everywhere with my camera. There were so many fascinating things to see. Thank goodness I am married to the Ever-Patient who is also a great sport and very understanding.

I felt a little guilty soaking up the tropical sunshine and playing in the wonderful waves whenever I thought of the brutal winter so many people are experiencing! A mai tai or two ~ zero guilt! LOL!

I was frustrated when I was shooting the kimono because there was glare everywhere from the outside sunlight spilling into the dim mall. I can see me in the odd reflections and light on the kimono. But it was breathtakingly beautiful to see!

      Have a great Wednesday!

  11. Happy Retirement to Terry!

    I spy tempura.... (tummy grumbles)

I thought the very first photo might be part of the hunt, and was wondering if the keyword were "bus" or "butt". :D

That kimono, that quilt, and that mural. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks, Sue! That tempura was delicious. I hope to do a post on on Marukame Udon. The restaurant makes its own noodles from scratch, and you can watch the cooks at work as you wend your way through the line that is always there. I always slip an extra photo or two in before I get to the actual list. I noticed the butt after I posted. Oops! I was hoping no one would notice. LOL! The kimono was breathtakingly beautiful, and the quilt so poignant. Queen Liliʻuokalani was the last Hawaiian monarch, and she made the quilt while she was imprisoned in a small room in the palace. The quilt is actually much larger than this small piece. I was quite taken by it because of its story, but also because it is a crazy quilt style, and I remember my grandmother MacBeath teaching me how to make the feather stitches on a crazy quilt when I was a young child.

I'll be over to catch up on your blog very soon. Tomorrow I am a co-host for the Insecure Writer's Support Group which will be a lot of fun, but time-consuming. Have a great day!

  14. I loved the reflections so much, at first I thought you shot STRAIGHT UP in the air then I read it. WOW!

SO happy you guys had such a great time on the Island. I trust your trip home was safe and sound.

The postcard was really great to see too. Unbelieveable what "people/kind" has done to this planet isn't it! So many people and so much construction. I guess all you need to do is find you little patch of paradise and claim the spot. That's what I usually do!

    Cheers from the snowy east!

PS: I do believe the snow is getting to me ~~ help!!

    1. Hi Ron! I wish I could telephoto you right out of snowy Nova Scotia to the sands of Waikiki! You have had a rough, tough winter! Our trip home was uneventful ~ other than we spent a night in San Diego with our good friend Jon and had such fun! Terry is meeting him in Vegas Tuesday night and have a fun Good Bud trip together in Vegas and Laughlin. I'm going to lock the door, pull down the shades, put on a huge pot of coffee and catch up on blogging and writing for the six days he is gone!!!

There are bulldozers and earth movers tearing up every undeveloped scrap of land in my neighborhood ~ even my beloved prairie pocket. I am heartbroken. We have to smarten up, or our fragile and beautiful planet is going to be DOA!

You and Jim have found your little patch of Paradise, and over the years you have turned you home and garden into something warm, inviting, and unique. It is truly an exceptional and beautiful spot!

Have a lovely Easter, my dear friend! Hugs to all of you!
