Out and About in Venice

I can't tell you how much I love Venice!
I never tire of roaming along its canals and narrow passageways.
Here are some photos I took while wandering last fall.

Note:  Somehow earlier this evening I accidentally published an unfinished post I am working on.
It was full of mistakes and cut and pastes, so I quickly took it down when I realized what had happened.  My apologies if you saw it.  Thanks for leaving kind comments, Jean and Alex.  They'll probably repost when I finish it.

  1. Great variety of photos. Yeah, if I had to lug stuff up those stairs, I'd travel light. Or hire someone to carry my stuff.
Those masks would be perfect for our Masquerade book!

    1. Hi, Alex! I've seen a lot of people and porters dragging luggage up and down the myriad bridges in Venice. The Ponte degli Scalzi (in the luggage photo) is a bridge just outside and to the left of the Santa Lucia train station which disgorges countless tourists. A mob of porters are for hire there. There is actually one coming down the stairs in the photo (in the orange vest). Sometimes I wish Terry would go for hiring a porter in Venice. Other times I say a little prayer of gratitude that I can manage my carryon up and down all the bridges ~ It becomes a source of pride and a gauge of fitness for me.

Sorry about my other vanishing post last night. I must have clicked on the wrong thing. At first I thought I had unpublished and republished a previous post, losing all the comments. Then I realized that it was one I hadn't finished yet because I have to do some research for it. In a panic, I took it down because it was a mess! I have no clue how Pat keeps all his posts straight. I've got five or six in the hopper, and that's enough to get me in trouble!

Have a great day and enjoy your weekend!

  2. I was just thinking the other day of those "pinup priest" calendars that get sold in Italy and wondering if they were still on the market We saw them in Rome at the Vatican tourist shops when we were there a few years ago. Aren't they the strangest things? Selling the sex appeal of the (allegedly) celibate!

    1. Happy Friday, Debra! I did a double take when I saw that calendar. It was such a disconnect! A priest as a sexy pinup??? I resisted the urge to buy one. Celibacy is a difficult road to travel, because it is so against primal human instincts. The RC church has enough problems with sex and its clergy; it doesn't need pinup priests. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Hi, Diane! It was fun, and it had wonderful produce. Next time I'm in Venice, I plan to buy some fruit and veggies, now that I'm striving for Terry and me to eat four plus of each every day. Have a great weekend!

  4. I wonder what it would be like to live there, taking a gondola everywhere.

Hey...is that a calendar of handsome priests?

    1. Hi, Kay! It's good to see you! Anything can be a subject for my camera! LOL The vegetables, fruit, and every kind of food displayed looked delicious. I'm learning to cook veggies better in an effort to improve our diet. It's a slow process, but I'm getting there. Wishing you and Richard a good weekend!

  7. haha that kiddo really looks like he wants a bite. Sure a whole lots of things to see and people to watch. And no way in you know what would I be dragging stuff up those stairs. No escalators? lol

    1. No escalators, Pat! Venice requires a lot of footwork. No vehicles, other than boats on the canals, are allowed in the historic part of the city. Even the police and ambulances are boats only. It's fascinating to watch how the old part of the city operates. Have a good one!

  8. Thankyou for the great photos! I was in Venice a long time ago, back in the 1980's! I loved it when I was there. I bet a lot has changed, but probably a lot has stayed the same too. I never saw a calendar with priests on it? LOL! That was strange! I did buy some of the fashion magazines! I gained so much weight when I was in Italy! LOL! Big Hugs!

Yeah, that priest was too cute, and it seemed very weird! I have lost over thirty pounds and have 6.2 pounds to go ~ Then I'll think about fashion magazines ~ LOL Big hugs back at you!

  9. What an awesome trip, Louise! I can only imagine how mesmerizing it is to explore this area. I'd probably come back with a thousand photos. HAHA That photo with the little boy and the cookie. That is adorable! I would have caved and asked the mom if I can give the little one a cookie!

    1. Hi, Martha! I did take 1,000 photos ~ LOL! That little boy was too cute, and he did get a cookie before the ferry came. I love Italy, and I want to go back very soon. I'm staring at 69 on March 18th, and I'm feeling the pressure of running out of time. So many amazing places left in the world to see; so many amazing places to go back to. I hope that you are having a not-too-cold weekend. It was 0º F/minus 17.7ºC. when we came back from Parkway Bar and Grill a few minutes ago. That's getting to be a little too cold for me! Have a great week!
