Bubbles Over Brighton

Have you ever gone through a pile of photographs you've taken
and come across a few that seem a little odd?

I experienced that today when looking at some photos
I had taken in Brighton, England in the U.K in 2018.

I was actually looking for a specific photo along I-70 in Utah,
but I was distracted by these.

At the time I took these,
I thought I was capturing some artistic pictures.
Now they strike me as a little strange.

I never did find that photograph I was looking for,
but then I was searching through over 112,000 photos.
Maybe I'll find it by next week!

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post, Yvonne! I'm never sure how people will react to what I post, because I have no objectivity to evaluate what I've put together, especially after I've been working on it for a while. These photos made me smile, even if they strike me as a little odd. Brighton is a fascinating place, almost schizophrenic, the wildest collection of buildings, sights, and people, often in odd juxtapositions. I absolutely love Brighton, because it is so much FUN! Have a great weekend, Yvonne! Sending you big hugs!

    1. Thanks, "No!" That's the feeling I get when I receive a package wrapped in bubble plastic: pop, pop, pop! However, when I was capturing these bubbles, I was running around saying, "Please don't pop, please don't pop!" Bubbles are ephemeral, but they deliver such joy and wonder in their brief existence. Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Glad you took a picture of the bubble-maker - I wondered why they were so big. I think those shots are really cool!

    1. Thanks, Alex! I hoped that people would enjoy the shots, even if they struck me as more odd than artistic. I was so pleased that I captured their iridescence in the light of the lowering sun. I'm glad I had you wondering for the first few photos; that was my intent. I always try to tell stories with my photos, even if they're small stories! Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks, Rain! I really like Bubble in Blue too. Capturing the bubble against the background of seemingly rising cirrus clouds was serendipitous ~ I didn't have time to think about something like that when I was snapping photos! I just wanted to get the bubble before it broke! Sometimes I'm just Lucky Louise! Line is an element of art I'm subconsciously drawn to. I hope that you and Alex had a fun Halloween! Terry wasn't feeling well, so we had no culinary treats, like I'm sure you did! We did indulge in bowls of warm pumpkin pudding topped with real whipped cream! Oh yum! Pat all your beautiful pets for me! Hugs to you!

    1. Hi, Debra! It felt like a bubble festival, but it was just a guy doing his thing. People do all sorts of things in Brighton ~ That's one of the things that makes Brighton so much fun! I hope you had a fun Halloween! Have you and your Rare One eaten those yummy looking gingerbread houses yet? LOL

    1. Hi, Jean! It is lovely by the beach in Brighton. I find it endlessly fascinating. The people show is as compelling as the ocean, and that's saying something for this Bluenoser! I hope that you are well into spring and that the construction in your house is done! Also, I hope that giant quilt machine is getting a workout! Hugs to you and Hugh!

  9. I thought they were rather random there for a second and then there they be, created and floating away. Like how you captured them and all around as well. Damn, you have a lot more pics then me. I thought a few thousand was a lot. How can your computer even hold that many? lol

    1. Hey, Pat! I saw a number of bubble-makers in England along the beach in Brighton and in London. It creates a lot of delight. My poor computer is not doing so well. I have to get a new one in the next couple of weeks. My photo hobby is out of control! I'm going for mega memory, and I have to focus on eliminating some. I bet you had fun with your little rug rats during Halloween! Have a good one!

  10. Beautiful pictures, well captured! Working strictly from photos,"Making Bubbles" numbers 1 and 2, I conclude the gull at left is about 6 feet tall or the human making bubbles is 7, maybe 8 inches tops. There is much I don't know about the UK but I suspect Roger Williams left (what,1630?) because he found these perspectives unnerving. I would not have, but then I was born 300+ years later and Portuguese of all things.

    1. Yay! I created an enigma, for the Master of Enigmas! On second thought ~ Likely not ~ LOL! The seagull photos were some of the photos that made things seem odd to me ~ also the big bubbles chasing the kiddos, and the bubbles following the street sign as they turned right. I was standing up on the sidewalk by the King's Road which put me on a level with the gull overlooking the boardwalk below. ~ great visual fun. I had to google Roger Williams, because my mind went straight to Roger William. Now I can't get his "England Swings" out of my head. But I was able to reacquaint myself with the Roger Williams thanks to you. You are always inspiring me to google things, enigmatic and not. I greatly admire his "new and dangerous" ideas. I wish he were around right now! I'd say enjoy your weekend, but every day is a weekend for those of us fortunate to have retired! So have have a fabulous day, Geo, and I hope that things have calmed down for Norma and that she can relax and enjoy the day as well!

  12. There is just something fascinating about bubbles. And the man making them just had to share his joy. When I taught I always had a bubble unit in May when things were winding down. I'd take the kids outside and we would experiment. Then I'd take them inside and give them a straw and put some soap/water on their desks. I'd show them how to make square bubbles and they would spend a long time playing (and all the while they were cleaning off their desks..tricky, yes?)I think I need to buy some bubbles and just have fun blowing.

    1. Hi, Peggy! I enjoyed reading your comment so much! I would have loved to do a bubble unit with my kiddos, but the earlier grades got a big bubble unit in before my kiddos reached me. I'm sure that your kids had a great time, and kudos to you for making desk cleaning fun! I had my kiddos use shaving cream to clean their desks, and since I worked in a year round school, we had to switch rooms three times after the start of the year. We cleaned desks a lot! One time my principal came in when we were cleaning desks with shaving cream. He watched for a few minutes and remarked, "In all my years of education, I have never seen anything like this!" I think several of my boys had shaving cream beards at this point! LOL Next time I'm in Brighton or Waikiki, I'm going to have fun blowing bubbles too! Have a great week! Hugs to you and Don!

  13. My favorite shot is the Lilliputian bubble maker by the gull!
I lived by Brighton Beach in our small town (then) of Bluffton, SC. I wonder if it acquired its name from someone longing to be in Brighton, UK?!

  14. How fun! We didn't make it to Brighton when we were that way last summer, but it does seem like a lovely place to explore, especially if you have people doing fun things like tossing giant bubbles around town.
