Drive

Music is nearly always playing when I write.
I use it to feel a tone or emotion for what I'm writing.
Recently I found the perfect song for languor.

An odd emotion, I'm sure.
Google's Oxford Languages defines languor as,
"the state or feeling, often pleasant, of tiredness or inertia."source

I rarely feel languorous.
I'm a ball of nervous energy, high strung, with an impressive startle response.
So it was amazing when I heard Joe Bonamassa's "Drive" for the first time recently.
I slipped into a state of languor, remembering other languorous times in my life.
And I played the song again and again just to hold on to that mellow emotion.

Joe Bonamassa ~ "Drive"

On my last night in Las Vegas, I was definitely wallowing in languor.
I had done all I wanted to do and more on our visit:

Here are the lyrics for "Drive" ~ composers Joe Bonamassa and James House:

Babe, you’ve been feeling poorly
I’ve been dealing with stress
Why don’t we go out tonight
Put on your favorite dress

And let’s drive
Into the night into the light
Let’s ride   Put on an old blues song
Let all our troubles be gone
And drive

Feel like I’ve been a prisoner
Of my own design
I’ve been such a bad listener
But I hear you tonight

Let’s drive
Into the night, into the light
Let’s ride
Put on some old blues songs
Let all our troubles be gone
Let’s drive
Let’s drive

30 miles from Santa Fe
Bound for San Anton’
Even though it’s dark out here
I don’t feel alone

Let’s drive
Into the night, into the light
Let’s ride
Put on an old blues song
Let all our troubles be gone
Let’s drive

Put on an old blues song
Let all our troubles be gone
Let’s drive
Let’s drive

Joe Bonamassa:  "Joseph Leonard Bonamassa (born May 8, 1977) is an American blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. He started his career at age twelve, when he opened for B.B. King.[3] Since 2000, Bonamassa has released fifteen solo albums through his independent record label J&R Adventures, of which eleven have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Blues chart."  Wikipedia

    1. I will, Tom! I love music, and I would have enjoyed seeing Joe Bonamassa last night, but we were watching the first episode of the new season of "Alone" last night. It's set in the MacKenzie River Delta north of the Arctic Circle. And "Alone Australia" starts next week. We're survival show junkies, but I've gone from wanting to be on "Survivor " to being relieved I'm curled up on the couch next to Terry at home ~ lol! Take care!

  8. You always take such interesting photos! Love the dancing gorillas, the musicians, "donut lick the wall," the bicycles (and unicycles!) -- and I appreciate the Oilers game photo too although, alas, they have fallen on hard times now with the Florida Panthers. 1. Hey, Pat, where you're at! I don't know how those gorilla men do it. Those suits are heavy and it's hot in Vegas, even under the canopy on Fremont street. They are crowd pleasers, for sure. I felt sorry for the bouncer, because he was bored. I was fascinated with his tattoos. Usually people around the Carousel Bar are pretty tame. We avoid places where things get too rowdy. All the best to you!

  13. So glad you are still enjoying the high life (in planes). Vegas looks great - you've highlighted it well! It's now on my bucket list to visit just for the entertaining sights. Are there people in the gorillas or are they animated but static? A paradoxical phrase I know. It's uncanny you posted a Joe Bonamassa video as I took have been listening to him lately (YouTube TV). Blessings to you and all you know and love. Love love, Andrew.

    1. Hi, Andrew! It's great to see your blog up again! Yes, there are people in the gorillas. The patches in the gorillas' chests are where the people look out and see. I have no idea how they work the arms and heads. And it's HOT in Vegas! How funny that we were both listening to Joe Bonamassa. He's a fabulous musician, and I love the Blues! Blessings on you, my friend!

  18. thanks for sharing your emotions with so honesty dear Louise .i think i can relate when one wants a complete disconnection with present moment for a while and adjust into specific emotion .i have lived such moments for many years specially when we lived in small house for sixteen years and outings were so rare due to restricted circumstances .it stayed same here as well in new house too for sometime but them my spirit found it's place within sky laying over my yard . yearly get away help a lot but meditation steals the show above everything :)

  19. Languor, a word I have heard before, but I am quite certain I have never used it. Mellow seems to come easier to me. Yes, I agree, Joe Bonamassa's is mellow and I am listening to it again as I write this. We all need some mellow, especially in this day and age. Thank you for these moments.
As for Los Vegas ... I haven't been there in years, but I can see great promise in taking another trip out there. I love the Gorillas. Quite the opposite of mellow, but so much fun. And I love street music. You have to wonder how many great artists got their start doing street music. I never gambled when we went to Vegas ... more interested in the shows and the food and your pictures bear me out. I love the bicycle guy. Can you imagine yourself standing (on a bike no less) for a whole day in one position. I have never had that much self control :) And yes, what is in the mind of a bouncer ... do you have to have a violent nature to seek such a job or is it your hope that your large stature will cause people to heed your request for them to leave? So you have taken me on another ride, Louise, a mellow one this time. Enjoyed every minute of it ... and had a sense of your nervous energy being mellowed out. You make me smile ...

    1. Thank you so much, Andrea! Your comment made my day! But then, your comments often do. The bouncer was a big man, and his tattoos were quite something. Fortunately he didn't have to deal with anyone obnoxious while we were there. A lot of people were going to pink box for doughnuts. those people are usually tame. Have a great week! Hugs to you!

  21. I haven't been to Vegas since 2018, but maybe we'll head back there as our son and his family plan to move to Henderson. But it won't be in the summer and we'll probably stay at the Gold Strike Casino just outside Boulder City, where I've staved several times

    1. Good to see you, Jeff! Terry and I put offers on at least two places in Henderson, but we were outbid. Henderson's 's a good community and away from the frenzy and excitement of the Strip. There are some good hikes in the vicinity, but then, I guess you are familiar with the area. Not in summer is a very good idea! Have a great week, my friend!
