I learned a new term on Wednesday, "Glitched out."
My "education" began a little after 9:00 am on Wednesday when I received a text
from my endocrinologist's office telling me that I needed to
update a computer form before my 11:00 am phone appointment with my doctor.
No worries! I had accessed this large healthcare system's patient site before.
I sat right down at my computer to do it.
An hour later I was nowhere.
After texts, phone calls, security identifications questions,
password changes, emails, codes, and expiring links,
I was online with an IT specialist at the large health system.
He investigated my problem for a few minutes,
came back and told me that my account was "glitched out."
He said he'd try to fix it and to wait on the line until he got back to me.
Twenty minutes later, my call was dropped.
I guess he couldn't fix my account's "glitched out" issue.
I called my endocrinologist's office and was told no completed form,
no appointment.
They sent me a direct link. Didn't work.
I called a second time and explained.
They sent me another direct link. Didn't work.
I called a third time.
"My account is glitched out. That's what IT told me before they dropped my call,"
I explained in frustration ~ Yet again! "I can't access my account or the form."
"You have to fill out the form or book a new appointment."
"I already went to the hospital and had blood tests for this appointment.
I don't want to have to the repeat the blood tests," I sobbed.
(ADHD and LD in technology is not a good combination.)
By this time Terry had been running in and out of my office telling me to hang up.
That this was ridiculous. Repeatedly.
He shouted at the doctor's office person, "Just tell the doctor what's going on.
She knows us. She wouldn't like what's go on. She'll call us.
She'll take my wife's appointment, form or no form."
"No," said Office Person.
"I'm going to have to take my wife to the emergency room, if you don't fix this.
She is very upset!" said a very loud and upset Terry.
"I'm fine, " I yelled at Terry. "Fine!"
"The doctor is with another patient right now," said Office Worker.
"But this is my appointment time."
"But you didn't fill out your forms, so you lost your appointment."
"Then get us to the doctor after this person," Terry demanded with a few !@#$%s. "Or we'll get a new doctor."
"I'm going to say "Goodbye" now," I said.
Thank you for your help. Have a good rest of the day."
Silence.
I ended the call.
Glitched Out!
Google
Ten minutes or so later my phone rang.
It was my endocrinologist.
This wonderful Chinese woman from Adelaide with this warm Aussie accent
smiled at me from my phone and listened patiently as Terry unloaded.
This was most distressing for this born Canadian.
"Okay, I better stop now, so you can talk to Louise." He leaves my office.
"I'm sorry!" I say. "I'm not as upset as Terry said.
He's just worried about me because he loves me."
"I know," said my doctor. "Sometimes we just have to vent."
My bloodwork and thyroid are excellent!!!
Ten minutes after my endocrinologist and I finish talking, my phone rings.
It's my doctor's office.
"You had an 11:00 appointment with your doctor that you missed ..."
Some days do you just want to crawl under the covers
and work up the courage to start again? 😵💫
Now I'm contemplating calling the health system's IT department,
to see if someone can fix my glitched out account.
I've got nine months before my next appointment. 😂
AI Overview: "Glitched out" is an informal term used to describe a situation where something is not working correctly, especially due to a temporary malfunction or unexpected problem."
HiNative: "It can also refer to a person feeling panicked." 😵💫
I'm linking to Tom's Aloha Friday, Nicole's Friday Face Off, and Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date.
Wow Louise, I was getting frustrated 😠 😡 👿 reading this. Technology can sometimes be so annoying. Take good care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! I'm doing great this morning. We just returned from's Terry's doctor's appointment this morning, so I'm a little late starting to visit around. Terry and his doctor walked out of the inner office together laughing. I was flooded with gratitude when I saw the cardiologist. He literally saved Terry's life on April 10, 2021. Terry's heart stopped on the Cath Lab table, and Dr. MacDonald restarted it with paddles. If Terry had been anywhere else, he would have died. That was a good reminder to keep aggravations in perspective. Have a great weekend! ❤️
DeleteSome days feel like a boss battle you didn’t sign up for, and all you can do is regroup, eat some cereal, and try again tomorrow
ReplyDeleteI've regrouped, Roentare! 😂. And today is a bright new day. Technology and people working from scripts can make me crazy, but I'm dogged and won't give up. You've probably put Friday to bed and are asleep looking forward to the weekend. Have a great one!
DeleteTechnology is wonderful except when it BLOODY ISN'T! Glad your doctor phoned anyway and your test results were good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra! Sometimes I think that we'd better off without technology, and then I remember that it's technology that allowed me to meet wonderful people like you. Have an awesome summer weekend!
DeleteSo stupid! You guys should've just gone to the appointment and let Terry rant at them in person. I bet you anything they had access to those forms there and could've printed one out for you.
ReplyDeleteThis is where we rely too much on technology...
We do rely on technology too much in some areas, Alex! Fortunately, both Terry and I calm down quickly. Team Barbour is doing well this morning. My next appointment with my doctor is in person. 😂 Have fun this weekend!
DeleteI wish I could keep that word out of my vocabulary, sadly, it's too common of a problem these days. Glad you had a good report.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeff! I may go into complete remission. How great is that! I wish you fewer "glitched outs." Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThere have been solar flairs disrupting lots of communication sources, hopefully your glitch will stop soon, but even today, Friday, I still have a few gremlins in my equipment. Glad your tests are good though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anonymous! I never thought of that, even though I had heard about the solar flares. I hope to be around for a long time yet. The sun, the solar system, the universe are fascinating, and we're learning so much more about them every day. I want to know more! 😂 🤞. All the best to you!

ReplyDeleteLook! A glitch gremlin! 😂
Delete...the term Glitched Out is new to me too. This morning at 7:00AM I had an appointment with my cardiologist and yesterday I was Glitched Out while completing the online check in. A patient woman helped me to no longer be Glitched Out!
ReplyDeleteLucky you, Tom! Fortunately, my endocrinologist is patient and kind. She gets frustrated with technology and people working from scripts too. We were just at an appointment with Terry's cardiologist this morning as well. It's that time of life. 😂 Wishing you a relaxing weekend!
DeleteHello Louise 🤩
ReplyDeleteI wish you get good results and feel better soon 😘🌿🌺
Pfft, unless it was a 2 hour drive or something, I would have drove straight there, told the office bleep to print me off the damn form, filled it out in front them, and then slapped it down on the desk. May have made a few snarky comments when I did too. Of course these days with everything needing to be done online they probably wouldn't be able to print things.
ReplyDeleteMain thing is Dr called you at least.
I've never used it as glitched out. I just say glitched. Or call it a glitchy piece of...
I'm remembering that term. I cannot even being to imagine the frustration you were experiencing. well, actually I can -- though I've never had that much trouble. But under the circumstances I'd be in the same spot as you and Rick would be my stalwart knight, Terry, ready to take on the evils of the system. But so glad the bloodwork and levels were fine and at least you can check that off -- for a bit!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of, "glitched out" either.
ReplyDeleteIt's tough when technology, meant to make things easier, creates such a huge headache, especially when you're already dealing with health concerns and trying to get important appointments.
ReplyDeleteIt's clear how much that situation escalated and caused distress. It's good you eventually ended the call.
Precious friend Louise, when suddenly after breakfast I remembered that I couldn’t visit you since you came to Islamabad,I jumped up from the sofa and grabbed my iPad smilingly as I am going to see you but reading your story widened my eyes and burdened my mind. I can totally understand how must have felt 😔
ReplyDeleteSuch glitches happen to me and my family time to time as well.worst was told by younger son when he spent few days in preparation of the game which was university assignment and went to sleep peacefully that thing was done finally.but when he just checked it on Sunday late night as preview ,it was gone completely. He said it was dreadful and heartbreaking but he couldn’t afford to sit and grieve. Thankfully he had things in mind and he started to recreate it till morning.he was late for the university but he completed it and submitted before deadline time by the grace of God!
I loved though how wonderfully you created this scenario in my mind :) you are such a beautiful writer my dear friend 🥰🤗👍♥️
Our days to get back are left less than two weeks :( but we have to so hubby can start paperwork for his retirement dues and pension.
You and Terry are in my dear Louise!
I am grateful that you are doing well by the grace of God🥰🙏
Health, peace and happiness to you both and to all you love 🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏
Wow, and people say US healthcare is difficult to work with. In my medical group, which is extremely large, they don't force anyone to use the "My Patient" portal to do those things that you're required to do. I do text and e-mail to confirm appts and the occasional check-ins (which were quite necessary during Covid). Hope you were able to get everything resolved.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know waht you mean. It`s the same here. We have to much bureaucracy. Best wishes to you.
