The Lovable Labs: Hanging with Weesie and Big T

Not too long ago Rufus and I got to spend
an extra long weekend with Weesie and Big T!

They just love it when we come to visit,
and we love it too!

They're always good for
lots of love, walks, and treats.

Big T Giving Us Some Love!
See How We Make Him Smile!

Watch how Rufus and I work it:
We sit down and stare,
and then Big T or Weesie turn inside out
trying to do what we want!

Four Eyes Working on Big T
Guess What We Want!

And just look at the eyes I fix on Weesie!
Really how long could you resist me?

Telepathy at Work

What did I tell you?
We are going on a walk!

Ready to Walk

Lots of times Weesie and Big T both walk us.
It's alway Big T and Rufus,
and Weesie and me
(We girls like to stick together!).

Rufus with Big T

Of course it is always Weesie with her camera
which means I don't get to star in many photos with her.

Although I have to admit that
Weesie goes after me a lot
with my fetching blonde eyelashes
and my striking brown eyes.

Gracie (Me)!!!

When Big T retired, he morphed into this social butterfly.
He's running here, there, and everywhere,
playing pickle ball every day.

And Weesie ~
now she's this writer
on her computer for hours
every day!

But I just park by her feet
and give her the look.
She'll get the message!

She will walk Rufus and me
for miles!

Now if you want to see something funny,
you should see Weesie walking us
while trying to photograph everything that moves and doesn't!

 Walking with Weesie

She will hold our leashes in her left hand
and her camera in her right as she shoots.

God help us if she spots something like
the pronghorns on the prairie!
The only thing we can do is flop down and wait!

But I surprised her!!!
We were walking down along Piney Creek,
and Weesie was shooting everything in sight.

Granted, she was good
about letting us check out
all the great smells
and doggie messages.

But really?
A leaf in dead grass?

Weesie had us sitting on the bridge forever,
while she was trying to take yet another photo of another leaf.
Those little cottonwood leaves weren't even nice ones!

I decided to shake things up a little
and pulled a fast one on Weesie ...

Shocked the hell heck
out of Weesie!  LOL!
Then sprayed her!  LOL!
(After she dragged me out!)

And what do you think Weesie was doing???

Taking pictures
of it all.

We just plop
and let her do her thing ~ Again!

And while she's taking
a picture of this cottonwood or that,
she's telling us if it's
a boy tree or a girl tree.

Who does that???

< boy tree, btw.

I suppose I shouldn't tease her.
After all, she did haul me out of the water,
while hanging on to Rufus with his leash,
and holding her camera in her teeth.

Truth is, I'm not quite as agile as I used to be;
having a little trouble with my hip
and frustrating inches around the middle.
Getting older isn't for the faint of heart.

And Weesie did drive us to the park,
so I could do all my walking there.

She finally found some leaves that made her happy:

Where else?
On a girl tree!

Girls rule!
Right, Sophie Doodle?
Winkers!

Weesie
drove us home.

And Big T came to our rescue.

Big T always comes through!

Bet you guessed this story ended with some treats!

And some naps!

I rested easy, knowing I've still got it!

  1. I love this post!

Nothing like taking the pups for a walk among nature to get those brain cells going and the heart pumping. That picture of the leaf just had to taken, kinda like a dip in the water had to be done. Take care and have fun out there!

    1. Thanks, Elsie! Our home always seems so empty when Gracie and Rufus leave. We have so much fun with them. We'll see them at Thanksgiving up in the mountains! Have a great day!

  2. What a fun story. And that is life through a dog's eye. They ask so little of us...ok, Sadie may be the exception. Chris' retriever puppy is so gentle and well behaved. I can't help comparing when Sadie was a pup and had so much energy. Don had just had cancer prostate surgery and then I had knee surgery. We were definitely not ready for a puppy at that time. Especially one as wily and attention seeking as a Jack Russell.

    1. Dogs are wonderful friends, aren't they, Peggy! I'll take Sadie! I always loved the lively, challenging kiddos in my class; well, I loved them all, but I always had a soft spot for the little boys who couldn't sit still or the little girls who needed extra hugs. Why you got Sadie when you did is a question I have; but I'll bet she took your mind off the challenges you were facing. Have a great day, my friend.

  5. I knew a bath was coming! Labs and retrievers are such awesome dogs. A bit destructive though. The one I had as a kid ate the legs off the coffee table and devoured half of my 45 record collection.

    1. Not your 45 collection!!! My last dog was a Scottie, MacBeath, so labs are quite a different experience. Mac was a dignified Scot who deigned to fetch, and he turned into a fierce and forbidding highlander when a bigger dog walked by. Labs are pure love and fun, irresistible! Have a happy day, Alex!

  6. Reminds me of my dog taking naps after long walks. They have so much energy there but they feel it when they get home

    1. Don't you wish you could plop down anywhere and have a great nap, Adam? Well perhaps you can, but not me. The only napper I envy more is a cat. Have a good one!

    1. Thanks, Manzanita! Dogs have it made; well those in loving homes do. Dogs seem to give back more unconditional love than any other living being that I can think of. Have a lovely day, and thanks for stopping by it was good to see you!

    1. Thanks, Jean! I'm so glad that you enjoyed Gracie's story. You probably figured out that I was channeling Sophie Doodle for inspiration. I could not believe it when Gracie took a flying leap! Fortunately I always hold their leashes. I don't want anything to happen to my S-I-L Noreen's beloved dogs on my watch. Have a lovely day!

  9. Hey just jiggle and pull on the lead when she's taking pics. It's a little trick my dogs use. You didn't mind the bath then? My dogs hide when they hear the wooosh of water.

    1. Haha! Sometimes we do just that to Weesie, Anna! And we're water lovers, so we run to the water when we hear it. Have a happy day!

  10. Both our dogs, Black Lab, Murphy and German Shepherd Rex, had to have baths last night. Sprayed by a skunk in the back yard. Happily usually only happens once a year. Murphy loves water but not the bath. Loved your photos.

  12. Well hey there! We're practically neighbors (we live in Denver). What a great excursion. Those are some beautiful dogs. They have such expressive eyes. This really makes me want to take my 3 dogs out on a walk in the woods today while it's still warm. Like me, they don't like to leave the house when it's cold and snowing.

  13. Fantastic post, Louise! I love dogs, and these dogs especially, they are so calm and loving! I used to work in a pet supply story in the 1990's and one day I met a customer walking her dog on the street, and she had a Golden Retriever named Amber. Amber took to me immediately, she thrusted herself up onto her hind legs, put her front paws on my shoulders and gave me a hug! That is one hug I have never, not will I ever, forget. Lovely photos, dear friend. :)
