IWSG: Tuesday, July 3, 2018 ~ Writing Goals

It's the first Tuesday of the month,
and we're posting today
because tomorrow is July 4th.

Today, as always, members
of the Insecure Writer's Support Group
will share their writing struggles
and writing successes
and offer their encouragement
and support to fellow writers.
Next month we will be back to posting
on the first Wednesday of the month.

To visit the IWSG website, click here.

To become a member of the IWSG, click here.

Our wonderful co-hosts who are volunteering today,
along with IWSG founder Alex Cavanaugh are:
Nicki Elson,  Juneta Key, Tamara Narayan, and Patricia Lynne.

I hope you have a chance to visit today's hosts and thank them for co-hosting.
I'm sure they would appreciate a visit and an encouraging comment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every month the IWSG poses a question
that members can answer with advice, insight,
a personal experience, or a story in their IWSG posts.
Or, the question can inspire members
if they aren't sure what to write about on IWSG Day.
Remember the question is optional.
This month's featured question is:
What are your ultimate writing goals, and how have they changed over time (if at all)?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Happy July 4th to all the American members of the IWSG.
My husband Terry and I are on the road today,
heading for the mountains to celebrate the holiday with family.

Throughout my life I have had an ultimate writing goal
of publishing a memoir about the time my family lived
among the Ojibwa in northern Ontario when I was a young girl.

Life interfered, and I was unable to pursue this goal until I retired.
Now I'm well underway with my memoir.

I also have a novel set in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in the works,
and I have been taking photographs for a children's nature book
about a stretch of Piney Creek near my home.

Beyond that, I can't see.

Of necessity, this post is brief.
Wishing everyone a great IWSG Day.
I look forward to reading about everyone's writing goals!
Happy writing in July!

  1. Neat idea for the kids book. You have the newfies involved in one? Geez, lol the current one I'm writing now is set in NS once more. Particularly the stupid deep dark woods that I have to go into with stupid wood ticks and stupid nature lol Hope you enjoy family time.

    1. Hey, Pat! I'm reading "The Disconnective" now ~ I am at the place where Sally's mother chops off all her hair. I enjoyed rereading "The Connective." Yes, I have Newfies in my novel which is set in St. Lawrence on the Burin Peninsula ~ tied partly into the sinking of the Truxton and Pollux in Chambers Cove. I visited the site of the wrecks in the summer of 1972, and it's haunted me ever since. I hate wood ticks! I have to watch for ticks here in Colorado too. Have a good IWSG Day!

    2. Hmmm are you sure you got those details right? Did her mother cut off all her hair? hmmmmm lol Hmm haven't read into that much. Be neat to see fixed into one of your stories. I have an idea to use Oak Island and the whole treasure hoopla in a book, just haven't got to that one yet. Had 45 of the stupid ticks on me so far this year, blah.

    3. Just got started, not far into the book yet. Cut Sally's hair off as in cut it really short, sheared her long locks. You tied Oak Island into "The Connective." I bet you could write quite a yarn about Oak Island and its treasure. 45 ticks! Yikes! You don't want to get lymes disease ~ bad news!

    4. Hmm are you sure her mother cut it off though? Yeah, I've used Oak Island here and there. Tied in good to The Connective. 49 ticks after today. One started to go in, blah. Paraniod about lyme disease.

  4. Ah! My current novel is set in Nova Scotia!! Windsor, NS, to be exact. I used to live in Halifax. Where is yours set? And happy IWSG day! http://www.raimeygallant.com

    1. How cool that your novel is set in Windsor, Raimey! I was born in Wolfville, lived in Wolfville in Grade 8, and graduated from Acadia University. So many things connected with Windsor: the expulsion of the Acadians, the birthplace of hockey, Halliburton's Sam Slick, the Avon River leading into Minas Basin, the Mi'kmaq, Glooscap, and Cape Blomidon. You've got me curious! Happy writing!

    1. It is exciting, Debra! It's great to finally have time to write! I hope you enjoyed Canada Day. We're up in Breckenridge for the 4th, but it's so dry we can't have fireworks. That's okay, because every March there is a fabulous fireworks display on Waikiki that we've been able to enjoy.

  16. Great pictures. As for the next post, I fondly remember when my mom would put chocolate pudding in a pie crust. It was my favorite pie after cherry. I do have a rhubarb plant in my backyard, but I haven't learned how to make stawberry/rhubarb pie. Oh, the shame.

    1. The shame indeed, Tamara ~ LOL! It's easy, and a crisp or crumble is even easier. My mother put chocolate pudding in a pie crust too ~ Yum! Have a good one!
