Chemistry on My Mind

It's been one of those weeks,
punctured in the middle by a miserable dental procedure.
Fourteen shots, including five in the palate,
when I'm barely in the chair
certainly counts as a miserable start in my books!

So my WIP post did not get finished,
but since I've got chemistry on my mind
I thought I'd share a few chemistry jokes.

Said Terry to me just now:
"I always cringe when you share jokes you think are funny,
but I love you anyway."

With that vote of confidence, here goes!

These funnies came from all over the internet,
and it's impossible to determine their original sources,
so I will simply credit Google Search.

Have a great Friday!

Till next time ~

  1. That's a lot of shots.
Like the Oh Crap one! Thanks to The Big Bang Theory, I understood most of those.

    1. Hi, Alex!
I dearly loved The Big Bang Theory! They thought a lot of us. Have a great weekend!

    2. I was going to say the same thing about The Big Bang Theory! That's about where all of my recent science knowledge comes from. :)

I liked the Laughing Gas one the best!

      Hope you're feeling better!

  2. Oh gosh Louise...I hope you have some good pain killers! Eegad.
Your funnies had me giggling...especially the ferrous wheel hee hee. I have to admit, I didn't understand "I'm diene"!
I need a chemist to help me figure out why my cheese isn't melting...but I guess that's not part of your background? :)
    Take care of yourself!!!

    1. Thanks, Rain!
I do have great painkillers, and I'm coming along, so far, so good. Sorry, I can't help with your cheese.
If it makes you feel any better, I had to look up "diene" and the definition was "an unsaturated hydrocarbon containing two double bonds between carbon atoms." Clear as mud to me.

What is funny to me is that organic chemistry was one of the most difficult courses at Acadia, and in geology I heard lots of students come out of an organic chemistry exam and say "Organic chemistry killed me." Or "slayed me." Or worse. The left stick figure is a spoof on the shorthand symbols used in describing organic molecules. So is the right one, but it's funny to me because it looks like someone dyin' (toes up) which is a play on the pronunciation of "diene." I thought it was hysterical, and I think that's what makes Terry cringe. He didn't get it either. LOL Maybe I stop before I dig a bigger hole!
      Have a great weekend!

    2. You're too funny Louise lol...at first I thought it was a play on DNA but then what do I know? I used to really like Chemistry in high school and nearly followed the science route, more for Physics because I wanted to study Atmospheric Science at McGill, but I ended up doing Finance, which bored the hell out of me, but I made a good living for a while! Kind of regret that, but the past is the past!!! :)

  3. Oh dear, I hope the pain and swelling has gone by now. Funnies, they are some of the best I have read.

    1. Thanks, Jean! Most of my swelling is gone, and the painkillers knocked out the pain. The trick is to nip the pain in the bud before it explodes. I'm glad you enjoyed the funnies. Every time I look at them I laugh. All the best to you and Hugh this weekend!

And who knew chemistry could be so hilarious!

    1. Thanks, Martha! I am on the mend! Stitches come out Wednesday. I've met many scientists with a zany sense of humor. Each specialty has its own nerdy jokes. After countless hours spent trying to calculate moles per liter in chemistry, I found the mol/l a relief to laugh at. Don't even ask what a mole is ~ LOL Have a great weekend with George!

    1. LOL, Adam! Your comment made me burst out laughing: Avogadro's Number had me tearing my hair out many times in the past. I was able to do calculations with it ~ long ago! Terry asked what had me laughing so hard. I tried to explain, but he didn't get it. Which made me laugh harder! Have a great day, my friend!

  11. Aw Louise,
I feel so sorry for you with what you suffered at your dentist. I have never heard of anyone having so many jabs, and five in the pallet. It is keeping the drugs companies happy. Some of the simplest and best things for this problem can be gargling with either vinegar or salt and water. Hope you get better soon.
