One Step at a Time

Terry is recovering well from his heart attack on the 10th.
We are both beyond grateful that he survived and is coming along,
but we still find it hard to believe that it really happened.
Terry has a lot ahead of him with heart rehab sessions, but his prognosis is very good.
We're taking it one step at a time.

These past two weeks have been challenging and exhausting,
but thanks to the love and support of our family and friends,
we've come through the chaos and uncertainty.
Last night, for the first time, I didn't lay awake for hours
listening to make sure Terry was still breathing.

Terry has been amazing.
I've been strong for him, but he's been stronger for me.
He was shaken by the thought that he might have left me alone.

I appreciate all the messages of support from my blogging and writing friends.
They have comforted me and helped me make to here, tonight, as I write.
If I haven't gotten by to visit, I will.

I have just about everybody to visit, because I've hit several walls.
Hitting a wall is when you are so tired you literally can't move.
You sit in a numb haze until you can summon the energy
to crawl to the couch or the bed and crater.

But it's all good!
Things are normalizing, smoothing out, calming down.

I keep looking at this photo of Terry and me:

Less than a week later, Terry almost died.
It's hard to process.  It's unimaginable.

But I know this:  You can't take life or love for granted.
They are incredible gifts.
Accept them with deep gratitude and make the most of them.

Till next time ~

  1. Every morning that both of you put two feet on the floor is a good day. This is what our GP told us after Hugh's heart attack. We went to rehab classes but found they were useless!!! Self help, love from family and friends, moderation in everything , Hugh found the hardest part was not driving. " Speed up, slow down, park here, NOT there, you can pAss right now, don't let the huge truck intimidate you, PASS him on the hill in the double lane" Phew ,was I so glad when he could drive again. You will conquer this too, I know, and meantime rest when you can, share the love, and know we all love and care out here too.XXXX

    1. Hi, Jean! We've had a lot going on, so I haven't been able to reply to comments until now. Terry is doing fine so far, but he has a lot of appointments. I had to laugh at your comment about Hugh as a backseat driver. Terry was giving me lots of directions too. It's a relief now that he can drive again! Thanks for you loving and kind comment. It is much appreciated. Love back to you both! XOXOX

    1. Thanks, Yvonne! Things are calming down some, especially after Friday this week. It's been pretty hectic and scary too. But Terry has a good cardiac team, and we're taking it one day at a time. His prognosis is very good, but it's definitely a process to go through! He's very motivated by being able to play pickleball again. He's walked two miles at a time outdoors a half dozen times now, so that is encouraging. Hugs to you my friend!

  8. Send Terry my wishes for a healthy recovery. We can’t take anything for granted at this stage of our life. We must cherish every moment. Please don’t feel pressured to visit the blogs and comment. Your focus will be entirely on Terry now and taking care of yourself. We will still be here when you both are better.

  10. That is right Louise, every day is a gift and we do not know what tomorrow brings. There is one song that is recently kept in my mind. It is called 'One day at a time sweet Jesus'. God bless you and Terry with all He has for us while we are in this world.
