Cloud Land and More

Terry and I spent some time in Cloud Land flying to and from Las Vegas recently.

It's one of my favorite places to be, especially when I fly above

the fabulous rocks of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and Nevada.

Fins in the Entrada Sandstone Near Moab

Cracks formed in the sandstone during a series of uplifts and collapses.

When the rocks above the Entrada eroded away,

wind and water erosion widened the gaps between the cracks, resulting in fin-like structures.

On Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas

You can have The Strip in Las Vegas.

Me, I'll take Fremont Street in Downtown Vegas, hands down!

It is fascinating, compact, and retains the feel of Old Vegas.

I especially love Fremont Street at night because it is full of vibrant color

constantly shifting and changing, often to the throb of overhead music.

When you walk up and down the length of Fremont from the Plaza to the Container Park

You will meet people from all walks of life, good and bad.

I won't deny it. You can see some very sad and unsettling sights.

But what brings me joy is seeing so many people laughing, dancing, and singing.

I often think people are remembering the happiest times in their youth

when they were carefree, growing into themselves, falling in love.

It's not unusual for me to stay through all three sets of their performances,

dancing, singing, and taking hundreds of photos.

Often I'll just wander taking in the sights and people.

Terry worries about me when I'm off on my own,

because I can be oblivious to things going on,

like a drug deal going down in a dark corner.

I am under orders to text him frequently,

and he'll show up periodically to make sure I'm okay.

He'll often watch two or three songs with me, but that's his max,

especially as I'm always pressed up against the stage barrier right in front of the big amps.

(I love to feel the sound beating against me!)

Then he'll head off to join friends or play poker.
