You can have The Strip in Las Vegas.
Me, I'll take Fremont Street in Downtown Vegas, hands down!
It is fascinating, compact, and retains the feel of Old Vegas.
I especially love Fremont Street at night because it is full of vibrant color
constantly shifting and changing, often to the throb of overhead music.

When you walk up and down the length of Fremont from the Plaza to the Container Park
You will meet people from all walks of life, good and bad.
I won't deny it. You can see some very sad and unsettling sights.
But what brings me joy is seeing so many people laughing, dancing, and singing.
I often think people are remembering the happiest times in their youth
when they were carefree, growing into themselves, falling in love.

I love the live bands!
It's not unusual for me to stay through all three sets of their performances,
dancing, singing, and taking hundreds of photos.
If I take enough action shots, I will get some great pictures with my iPhone.

Often I'll just wander taking in the sights and people.
Terry worries about me when I'm off on my own,
because I can be oblivious to things going on,
like a drug deal going down in a dark corner.
I am under orders to text him frequently,
and he'll show up periodically to make sure I'm okay.
He'll often watch two or three songs with me, but that's his max,
especially as I'm always pressed up against the stage barrier right in front of the big amps.
(I love to feel the sound beating against me!)
Then he'll head off to join friends or play poker.

I hope you enjoyed these pictures from a street like nowhere else!
Sounds like a very vibrant place, you have showed it really well in your photos. I have always liked street music, and although there might be a few things you have to be careful of there (as Terry is concerned) it looks like there are also many people there who are kind and friendly, enjoying the music and entertainment as you do.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughtful comment, Brenda! I do try my best to be careful, but I admit that I'm not as aware as I should be.
DeleteThis August will mark my 50th Anniversary of going to Vegas. I've seen such transformations over a half century. My favorite thing to do is listen to live music and take photos of anything and everything. I love to go to big name concerts on the Strip, but they are wildly expensive, and the logistics of getting to the venue and back can be a real hassle and take a lot of time. But I enjoy the free concerts on Fremont Street just as much, and the people are more interesting. I'm an older, petite woman who dresses in a nondescript way, so I'm largely "invisible."
I love being anonymous, because I can slip around unnoticed and get fun photos. I take hundreds in a "session," and I'm never sure what I'll get because everything is moving and I still have vision issues. I'm so happy that blogging buddies like you enjoy seeing my photos. Thanks for visiting, Brenda! Take care!
Wow.
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredibly vibrant - and you took some stunning photos.
Thanks, Sue! I had so much fun! When I head in for the night, I crash. I need dark and quiet after all the vibrancy ~ lol! Have a great weekend, my friend!
DeleteFantastic photos! I've never been to Las Vegas at all, but I enjoy seeing the sights through someone else's lens. Really interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leigh! I'm so glad that you enjoyed my photos! Sharing them fills me with joy! Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteIt looks like the party never ends. And in Vegas, it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteTerry's right to be concerned when you are off on your own. Too many weirdos these days.
Hi, Alex! The party never ends in Vegas, but it does slow down in the very late, wee hours. So do I ~ lol! If I'm up then, it's because I'm hungry. As much as I enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine, I rarely have a drink in Vegas ~ That's for safety, for sure.
DeleteThere are too many weirdos these days, and they are everywhere. Terry worries much more than I do. He's a "realist," and he says my "rose-colored glasses" are worse than my brother's (Roy's pretty bad.). I refuse to live my life in fear.
My city Aurora and the surrounding Denver Metro area have had too many horrible tragedies, so many that I can't keep track of them. The movie theatre, church, grocery store, school, walking down the street: If I had to be on alert and afraid every time I stepped out the door, I might as well go live in the Monastery of the Caves. Oops, not to safe there either! Time is fleeting. I'm going to soak in as much color, light, music, and love as I can, while I can. Hugs to you, my friend! Have a great weekend!
Your photos are always interesting, Louise, but my absolute fave today is "Taking a Break" -- what a wonderful shot of contrasts!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra! That was my favorite too. I can't imagine spending 8-12 hours a day in those high-heeled boots and dealing with those feathers (not to mention crude men, drunk or not). I'd be falling down and breaking off the feathers ~ lol! Have a great weekend with your Rare One!
DeleteSuch great shots. I would go photo-crazy. They didn't have the dome over the street when I honeymooned there 30+ years ago.
ReplyDeleteI get the photo-crazy part, for sure! I'm out of control ~ lol! I can remember driving down Fremont Street 50 years ago! I can't believe it. Have a great weekend, my friend!
DeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteWow, for sure, Sandi! I hope you are looking forward to a fun and relaxing weekend! Hugs to you!
DeleteI have been there, good photos
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! I hope that you had lots of fun. Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteWow! Looks like you had a GRAND time. So happy you got to experience it. Thank you for joining and sharing with FFO.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nicole! I have never had a bad time in Vegas. I wish I could keep going for another 50 years. Hugs to you!
DeleteYour photos are a great contribution to Nicole’s face art. I love all the spirit you have captured, and I thank you for bringing us on your evening adventure. The Las Vegas I have seen repelled me (I went to a big casino and it was awful). Loud music and crowds don’t appeal to me but your photos make me feel as if I shared the good parts of the locale.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks for your kind words, Mae! I'm sorry that you had an awful time in Vegas, but I understand. I've stayed at all the Strip hotels and casinos except for the Bellagio (and many old-time hotels that disappeared). You have to walk forever to get anywhere, even your room. And it's so expensive since it became a shopping and Foodie destination. And can the-powers-that-be add on fees for everything! I find all the escalators and bridges crossing the Strip very tiring, very quickly. The gambling machines and tables have high costs and bad payouts. That said, I'd go to any of the big shows which I love. Their prices are almost out of reach for me though. Fortunately, I love almost any kind of music, especially live, so the bands on Fremont make me very happy. Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting!
Delete...Vegas sure is a colorful spot. I'm coming up on my 77th anniversary of never visiting Vegas. 52 years ago my wife and I went to a Blood Sweat Tears concert when my wife was pregnant with our son. We sat near the giant bank of speakers, my hearing has never been quite the same and our son is quite the musicologist.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to hear from you, Tom! It's been a busy weekend for me, so I'm making the rounds slowly. Sorry about your ears, but how cool your son is a musicologist! It's always fun to see how life goes. My ears aren't the greatest, for sure. I'm likely getting a hearing aid after I finish with my eyes. LOL! It's always something! I'm headed back to Vegas next month on my way to Nova Scotia. Vegas is the best place to start from to fly to Nova Scotia. Oh, darn! I hope you're having a happy weekend!
DeleteSuch a fun experience watching the people do what they do in streets. Great captures to show that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Roentare! I do love watching people everywhere! Happy photo shooting, my friend!
DeleteSure got some great shots and lots of life there indeed. Being oblivious to things like drug deals isn't the best thing lol I always got in and out fast when I knew I'd be in drug country. Don't want to mess with them.
ReplyDeleteSadly, there are such sad and unsettling sights in most any city these days.
Carefree youth is easy to get back with rugrats you can steal err umm borrow and go out and about with too lol
I know that you've been having a blast with those cute Rug Rats! I'm sure their parents appreciate a break, and they know the twins have so much fun with Uncle Pattie! Have a great week, my friend! I'm looking forward to reading your new books! 👀
DeleteOh my Goodness, Louise ... I have been to Vegas several times in my life time, but never thought to go down town. I think I missed out on the best of the best. Now I will have to consider another try at the real Vegas. Thank you for this journey, it is filled with so much fun and happiness that we don't often see these days. I know there are bad things going on too .... why does that have to be? Anyway, I feel your joy and love your pictures and your thoughtful appreciation for the performers who exhaust themselves giving to their audiences. Hooray for you Louise!
ReplyDeleteAndrea @ From the Sol
Oh, Andrea, you are so kind! With so much uncertainty, sadness, and horror in our world, I think it is really important to seize joy where you find it. If for no other reason than it reminds you that there is a lot of good in the world. I really believe that most people are good-hearted and compassionate. When I was watching the first two sets of Alter Ego's performances my Fitbit credited me with bike riding; then it stopped, probably recognizing that I wasn't actually riding a bike. I wonder what that says about my dancing ~ lol! Wishing you joy, my friend, and maybe a trip to the real Vegas!
DeleteThis was fantaastic. it brought back memories for me. I've been to Las Vegas twice. stayed at the Flamingo Hotel. wonderful place.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your good time with us.
Yvonne.
Thanks, Yvonne! I've enjoyed staying at the Flamingo a number of times! I'm glad that you enjoyed my photos. Sharing them with others makes me happy. Have a great week, my friend! Hugs to you!
DeleteI've always wanted to see Vegas but haven't yet 🃏
ReplyDeleteI hope you get there, Adam! You can probably tell that I really love it! enjoy the rest of the weekend, my friend!
DeleteI just love the photos Louise! I remember many nights with you and Terry on Fremont Street - good times for sure! Cheers Barb
ReplyDeleteWe did have a lot of fun, Barb! I'm glad that you enjoyed the photos! Have a great week! Love you, sis!
DeleteLots of memories from long ago. Loved seeing the Cowboy. My aunt and husband lived in Las Vegas, when he headed to Vietnam. She told me some stories about her time there. We went to a movie theater way of the strip to see Terminator. The theater was fully with bikers, prostitutes and pimps. They made the movie for us. Their "enthusiasm" and loud outbursts gave the movie its own flavor. When we walked out, we were nervous, walking behind a pimp and lady, felt safer that way. Good times.
ReplyDeleteBoy, does this bring back memories! I'm not big on Vegas but if we have to go, Fremont Street is one of the favorite spots. You're right -- always something to do or see! You captured it perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYou got some fantastic shots of a quite different Vegas from the Strip - I guess. I have only driven through Vegas and found it awful - I'm just not a city person anymore. But it's wonderful that you could experience something that you like so much, and the photos you've captured reflect the atmosphere. I do love street music and have enjoyed much of it, mainly in Europe.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on Fremont Street being better than the Strip. Enjoyed your photos. Jeff. https://fromarockyhillside.com
