"Something is better than nothing!" I'm sure I say this at least once a day.
I had given up hope about getting a post completed this week.
I still haven't gotten around to visiting everyone who commented on last week's blog.
My apologies ~ I'm so sorry!
I've been slammed. Certainly overwhelmed.
And then I reminded myself that something is better than nothing.
So here goes a shorter post.
Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date theme this week is Complementary Colors.
2×3 grid of squares colored with the primary and secondary colors of the RYB color model.
Each tile has an ellipse colored complementary to the square that it’s in.
I've grown up with the traditional RYB color model.
This model designates three primary colors: red, yellow, and blue,
and three secondary colors: green, purple, and orange.
The complementary primary-secondary pairs are:
red-green, yellow-purple, and blue-orange.
The complement of any primary color is made by combining the other two primary colors.
For example, red's complementary color is green,
and green is made by combining blue and yellow.
Combining all three primary colors makes a black or gray color.
Moses Harris, in his book, The Natural System of Colours (1776).
In a color palette, complimentary colors are two colors directly across from each other.
For example, red and green are complimentary colors.

For Nicole's Friday Face Off I'm sharing a beautiful face made of sand:
Hopefully, this week will be less hectic and chaotic for me.
I plan to do much better getting around to visiting everyone.
Have a great week! Take care!
Hopefully next week will be much better for you. In the meantime thank you for this bright, beautiful and definitely colourful post.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to see you back, Sue! I was thinking about you a lot and hoping that you were doing okay. Take care, and hugs to you!
DeleteHi Louise, this was a long post, not a short one. But I enjoyed it very much! Have a good weekend, get enough rest and look after yourself. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteShort is hard for me, Valerie! It felt short because I didn't have to do much researching or writing. I'm glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for reminding me to look after myself and rest. I not very good at relaxing. And my will can override any signals my body gives me. I don't even notice them You'd think by now I'd have it figured out! Have a lovely weekend! Hugs to you!
DeleteThis is a wonderful, colourful post! In art class this week, we were discussing complementary colours and one lady said the easy way to remember them is "Christmas, Easter, Oilers" -- the colours of Christmas are red & green, the colours of Easter are yellow & purple, and the team colours of the Edmonton Oilers are orange & blue!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debra! I love the easy way to remember the primary and secondary colors! The Oilers ~ too funny. I hope you are enjoying your weekend! Hugs to you!
DeleteI am so glad you decided that something is better than nothing. Your post is brilliant. I love how you portrade the primary colors and the color wheel. Ohhhhh that sand face is simply amazing. Your post brings happiness. Thank you for joining FFO and have a very lovely day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment, Nicole! You made my day!
Delete...Something is always better than nothing! Are you still in Hawaii?
ReplyDeleteAloha, Tom! Yes, we have returned to Colorado, but my adopted state is wonderful too (even if there is snow on the ground). Take care!
DeleteLoved that sand art and great job on the complementary Colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine! It was fun putting the post together. Have a good one!
DeleteStopped in Vegas on your way back home? Are you sure Colorado isn't just an occasional home and you really don't live in Hawaii and Vegas? lol
ReplyDeleteSomething better than nothing is sure a way to be too. As little by little you can get things done that way.
Yuck yuck! I am never moving from Colorado no matter how far I roam! 😂 Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my friend!
DeleteYou are always full of knowledge to share and you took the complementary colors to a new lever for me :) I am still looking for the purple on Fremont Street though ... maybe it is the aging of the eyes that causes colors to lose their vitality. Your sand sculpture is awesome ... do you know who created it? Credit where credit is due, I say :) I would love to be able to draw such a lovely face, let alone make it in sand. Don't apologize for not commenting. You make me feel guilty because I can never get through both TAD and FFO comments before the week is up or it is so late that I know no one will be looking for a comment. Just do the best you can and move on to the next week ... by the way, I understand what it is to be slammed, so that is a perfectly good excuse :) Stay well, Louise ...

Thanks for your understanding, Andrea! I thought I had photographed the sand sculptor's name, but the information I photographed referred to another sand sculpture that I didn't see. This one may have replaced the other. I tried to track down the info, but didn't have any luck. I am OCD about the info I put up on my blog, because I want it to be accurate. I see the purple in the reflection on the street. It's not as vibrant as the yellow. And my aging eyes have a whole lot of problems. Each eye sees colors differently and those colors are somewhat different when I look with both eyes ~ lol. Thank you for sharing that it isn't easy to get around to everyone, even within a week. That made me feel relieved. I've been grumpy because I have so much to do. Last night I took a time out to watch the movie "The Fellowship of the Ring." It did my heart good, even though I know almost every spoken line in the movie. And today I made a shrub from scratch ~ that's a sweet and sour syrup that you can use in a cocktail or a mocktail. I also made a frittata for dinner. The two things took a lot of time, and I still have to strain the shrub. Then I'm going to have some with Prosecco and watch "The Two Towers." I can work from the time I get up until I go to bed and not even realize it, especially when I'm slammed and overwhelmed. Over the past week or so, I forgot to take any timeouts It felt so good when I finally did. Time to work smarter. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and thanks for your kind words. xox
DeleteThat sand face is just amazing. What people can do with sand (or even wood and ice) is really amazing. And I like that vintage blue and orange Hawaiian too, as well as the vintage color wheel. I hope you being slammed is with good things, not chores or bad things. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThanks, Erica! The sand face is a small piece of a larger sand sculpture which I plan to share in next week's post. I was excited when I came across the vintage color wheel! It's so cool, and it was created without many of the tools we have today. I've been slammed with chores and bad things, but finally I realized I was grouchy because I wasn't taking any fun breaks. Classic Louise! I did last night and part of today, so I'm feeling better. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Hugs back at you!
DeleteI love how you represented the beautiful complimentary colors. You gave us a lot to look at this week. I also love that sandstone face. I tried to leave you a comment last week and no matter what I tried, I got "Failed to Publish" every time. I finally gave up on Tuesday. I hope it doesn't happen this week. That's why I'm keeping this short.
ReplyDeleteYou got through just fine today, Elizabeth! I understand your frustration. I've had lots of problems leaving comments over the life of my blog. Fingers-crossed that my recent spate of good luck continues. I hope you have a great week! Take care!
DeleteThis is a beautiful post, Louise, I have enjoyed all the photos, especially those from Hawai'i. While I haven't been to Oahu, I love the Big Island, in particular the Puna District and the volcano.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carola! I love the Big Island too, but I haven't been there in a number of years. I especially love the Puna District because of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Kilauea volcano. My mother's mentor who encouraged her to go to university was the sister of Thomas Jaggar who founded The Hawaii Volcano Observatory and was instrumental in creating The Hawaii Volcanoes Park. Ironically I was reading Fred Mason Bullard's "Volcanoes in History, in Theory, in Eruption" while visiting my parents, and I was sharing some of it with my mom. She up and says, "I knew a volcanologist once, Tom Jaggar. He was Miss Jagger's brother." I nearly fell through the floor. If I had been born even a decade later I would have pursued a Master's in volcanology, but such is life! That hasn't stopped me from exploring and studying volcanos. I have tramped all over Kilauea. I even saw it erupting from a helicopter, a big thrill in my life. I'm excited to know that you love the volcano too. Now if I could just get to the top of Mauna Kea! Have a great week! xox
DeleteNice colors
ReplyDeleteThanks, Adam! I had fun with this post. I'm looking forward to seeing what topics you have been writing about on your blog. But I especially love your posts about your family. Baby Alexander is so cute, and I'm so happy for you, my friend!
