Scavenger Hunt, November 2014: Las Vegas

One of the highlights of November for me
was returning to Las Vegas for a long weekend
and having a wonderful time with great friends.

November's List

1.  N is for Night
The High Roller Wheel
from the Eiffel Tower

The Bellagio Fountains

The Strip from the Eiffel Tower

 Night or Day, Vegas Plays

2.  12 p.m.
Liftoff, Leaving Las Vegas 12:00 p.m.

Till Next Time

3.  People
McCarran International Airport
Las Vegas

Two special people:
Jon and Terry.

Jon's Padres played
better than Terry's Rockies,
so Terry made good
on his losing bet,
by wearing a Padres jersey
for a week.

But he kept his Rockies
close to his heart.

4.   Look Back
1957 Ford Thunderbird

Sigh!  How I would love to have this car!
Only $65,000!
What fun it is to look back at classic cars!

The ent is 10 feet tall and is
made of papier-mâché and organic materials.

8.  Window
 Looking Out the Conservatory Windows
at the Bellagio's Windows

9.  Hair
A Floral Horse in the Bellagio Conservatory

The horse hair is made of hydrangeas, yarrow, and dune grass.

10.  Funny
Container Park Praying Mantis

This fire-spouting praying mantis is really funny.
It made me think of monsters in B Movies.

11.  Something You Found
Mural, SLS Las Vegas

Chihuly White Sky Blue Persian Set
Chihuly Shop, Bellagio

12.  Whatever You Please

Carl “Safe Sax” Ferris

Whenever I am on Fremont Street at night
I listen for Carl Ferris

He always gets people moving.

  1. Looks like a fun time!
    You were spying on diners.
    And that chick is nude!

    1. It was a fun time, Alex! They weren't actually diners; they were gamblers below where I was waiting in line to ride the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower. I had to take quite a few shots to get one in focus, but with the faces blocked and the dancer on the bar relatively tame. I like to challenge myself!

  2. You always have the most original entry! Love all the lights and the paper model. My favourite though is that gorgeous car - I soooo need to win the lottery! x

    1. Thanks, Peggy! You can get a free photo at Binion's with the money. I took my photo and edited it to bring it closer and make it sharper. We had the best fun, and I bet that you would have had a blast with us! Take care!

    1. Thanks, Linda! I had such fun taking these! The only way I could get the fountain with my point-and-shoot camera was to steady it on the cross wires at the top of the Eiffel Tower and film a video of the Bellagio fountain show. Then I pulled a frame out of the video, cropped it, and sharpened it. I've learned to do that for things that are moving. I usually have to take several shots of something I want to make sure that I've got a good one. Don't give up on night shots ~ just shoot, shoot, shoot! Have a great evening!

    1. Thank you for setting it up, Jill! No, I can't believe it's almost the end of the year. I'm a little panicked because Christmas is coming up fast, and I have so much to do. I love the holidays, so it's well worth the craziness! Hope all is well with you!

    Was that million dollars guarded?

    1. Thanks, Jim! There are "eyes" everywhere in ALL the casinos, and the million dollars (2,700 $100 bills, 34,400 $20 bills and 42,000 $1 bills ~ wikipedia ) is protected by a plexiglass or acrylic container. I couldn't find a way to walk off with it! I looked! LOL! Have a good one!

  9. Couldn't you grab that million and run really really fast? Las Vegas sure looks like a fun time. One day I'll have to give it a go.

    1. I hope you do get to go, Pat! Vegas is so much fun! I wouldn't get too far with the million. It's a big and heavy display! I'm sure lots of people have imagined taking the money and running fast (me included ~ LOL). Have a good one!

    1. Hi Noushka! Vegas is completely opposite your favorite haunts, my friend!!!!! I find it fascinating because it is uniquely different from anywhere else in the world. It is so brazenly, gaudily, over-the-top, outrageously American! I love it! Thanks for your kind words about my photos! They are truly encouraging to me. Take care, my friend!

    1. Hi Keith! I usually get in more trouble at home, because I am aways more cautious and on the alert in Vegas. Fortunately I have my steady, calm, and predictable husband with me almost always, because I do have a tendency to get into trouble (hence the title of my blog)! I do hope you get to visit Las Vegas sometime. It is quite an experience, but definitely not for everyone. Have a great week, Keith. I'm playing catchup again after the Thanksgiving long weekend, but I'll be reading your blog very soon!

  16. How did a person with such strong connections to Canada wind up in the United States? I think that my wife and I must be the only people who have visited Las Vegas only to get up early each morning to leave town to go birding. There is also good birding at Sunset Park right in the city. As for the rest of Las Vegas, it holds absolutely no appeal for me.

    1. Hey David! Would you believe that I went on a blind date in Madrid, which resulted in my marrying a paralyzed Vietnam vet blues and country singer, and emigrating to California from Newfoundland? Yup! that's how I landed here in the US! My first husband died a long time ago, and now I'm living in Colorado. Actually I've gotten up early a number of times to visit Red Rock Conservation area just west of the Las Vegas strip. My husband and I like to hike and see all the wonderful wildlife, plants, and geology. It is a wonderful contrast to the frenetic strip and Fremont Street. I enjoy both worlds, although I will admit that there is a dark and seedy side to Vegas. Have a happy day, David!
