We spent the weekend at the Ameristar
in Black Hawk, Colorado.
The weather was spectacular!
Here are a few pictures
taken from our room on the 32nd floor.
I was looking from historic Black Hawk
up the slope to Central City and beyond.
Historic Black Hawk and Central City
Hills Beyond Black Hawk
The earliest snow dusted the higher peaks,
as gold began to tinge the green aspen.
Note: If anyone can identify the mountain peaks above Black Hawk and Central City,
I would appreciate it!

Beauty everywhere ~
and a special song running through my mind:
All the times I listened to it a lifetime ago in Nova Scotia,
never suspecting I would live in Colorado
and experience my own, very real

Wow, what amazing views and sunset. I enjoyed the John Denver clip too - I haven't heard his music in a while but used to listen to him when I was younger. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie! John Denver has long been a favorite of mine. Take care!
DeleteI really like the last photo
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam! That was taken right out my front door! Take care!
DeleteLouise, what a beautiful country you live in and around!! That last shot is breath-taking!
ReplyDeleteIt is funny how life takes its turns and we end up where we are. Love that song by John Denver!
Hey Jim! It's great to see you back! That must mean that you are definitely on the mend! Guaranteed I never expected to end up here! But looking back I can clearly see each turning point that got me to here. John Denver had wonderful songs. Too bad he died the way he did and at such a young age.
DeleteTake care!
John Denver's "Country Road" on a country road in New Hampshire as we careened along was playing and loudly being sung by us with a slight opps sorry almost went off the road hon! We'll always remember JD this way. I am very HAPPY for you to have a much more fulfilling remembrance of his music. White stuff, nope I didn't see white stuff. This week in good ol' NS is as it should be sunny, clear and perfect temps. Last week was but a blip on the radar. Love your mountain pictures, you mountain goat, you!!
ReplyDeleteRon
Hi Ron! I love your memory of "Country Road" ~ yet another awesome JD hit! We all have those crazy memories that were so much fun and we survived! Lot of luck in survival I think! This is my favorite time of year in Nova Scotia ~ the very best weather! Enjoy your day!
DeleteThese are wonderful photos of beautiful scenery. An equally beautiful song! I can see why John Denver got so excited about the mountains!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Paul! Your stomping grounds are pretty spectacular too! Someday I hope to see them. I hope all is well with you!
DeleteWonderful photos. What a gorgeous place! That's a really nice song from John Denver, but my favourite from him is "Country Roads..."!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Martha! I really love "Country Roads" too! I love Nova Scotia and the ocean, but I think I'd really miss the mountains if I left Colorado. I keep stuffing more coins and bills in my travel piggy bank so I can buy airplane tickets! Have a good one!
DeleteBeautiful photos! I miss John Denver. He was always a fave of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra! I miss JD too! He sang to my heart. Take care!
DeleteThat is one quaint little tucked away town
ReplyDeleteSure going there one would never frown
although must get lots of snow
Which would make me go haha
Hey Pat! You're right about Black Hawk/Central City getting a lot of snow! There is something so cozy about being tucked away in front of a fire while the snow piles up outside. I hope that your day is going well!
DeleteO wow, how beautiful! The sheer vastness and natural beauty are just breathtaking. And of course, as soon as I saw the words "Rocky Mountain...", that John Denver song immediately started playing in my head. He was a wonderful songwriter.
ReplyDeleteHi Jan! Thank you for the kind words. The vastness and natural beauty of the west is why I love to be here so much. Sometimes I think we take it all too much for granted. I think wild areas expand our souls. I miss JD, and I'm so glad we can still hear his wonderful songs. Take care!
DeleteHello Fundy!
ReplyDeleteI won't help you identify the mountain peaks but I enjoyed your pics tremendously!
Superb landscapes, mountains are so magical!
What a view from your room and the sunset is just fabulous!
Keep well, cheerio!
Hi Noushka! It's so good to see you, and thank you for the kind words. We are definitely blessed in Colorado with big skies and magnificent sunrises and sunsets! Have a great day!
DeleteGreat pictures Louise - I love going to Black Hawk when I am in Colorado ... now where are the Northern Stories - h'mm!!! Still waiting to here from you re my next visit :o)
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Barb
Hey Barb! A northern post is next on my list! I know you're waiting. Terry dragged himself off to work today still very sick. That's got to be the best thing about retirement ~ not having to teach when I was really sick! I'm going to pin him down tonight. Take care, Sis!
DeleteFancy having snow on the mountains, went it's starting to get so hot it's hard to sleep at night.
ReplyDeleteHi Jill! We had snow on the ground right outside our front door yesterday ~ and everywhere else. And this morning I had to turn the furnace on for the first time this winter! Brrrh! We have these microwavable bears that we can warm our bed with, so while you're finding it so hot that it's hard to sleep at night, I had to heat them up last night because we were freezing in bed! Time to bring out the flannel sheets! LOL. Take care!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda! Hope all is well with you!
DeleteNow that my friend is a view! By the way, John Denver is an all time favorite. Still remember visiting my sister in Florida when I graduated from high school in 83 and sitting on the beach all day with my one tape....John Denver's Greatest Hits. His songs touch my soul.
ReplyDeleteHi Monica! JD's songs touch my soul too! They bring back so many memories for me too!
