She Walks in Beauty: Breckenridge, Colorado

Breckenridge is a spectacular ski resort located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  It lies at about 9,600 feet in a valley between a long ridgeline containing Bald Mountain and the Tenmile Range.

The Pikes Peak Gold Rush of 1859 brought prospectors into Summit County, and rich placer deposits along the Blue River brought miners into the area that became Breckenridge.

For many years Terry and I have been fortunate to spend lazy weekends in this town of 4,540 residents.  This Saturday we took a favorite walk near the base of Peak 10.

  1. Love the aspen stems pics! Why, you ask.... symmetry, colour, clean lines....just love it. Now this area would be so exciting to trek through...wish we had mountains here. I mean REAL mountains...we have hills, lots of undulating hills but nothing like the Rockies...thanks for this Louise!

    1. Thanks for the feedback, Ron. The 600 foot high Overlook on the way to Blomidon used to scare the heck out of me. Then I got stranded, sobbing and clinging to rocks, almost 14,000 feet high more than once! Nova Scotia's mountains are still lovely, and quite magnificent in the Cape Breton highlands. Do you remember the English measurements, or are you totally metric now?

    2. I flip flop depending on the circumstances....some days I just throw my hands in the air and curse....there....that feels better!

    1. Thanks Jim! Aspens are amazing organisms - perhaps the largest on earth. I find them fascinating and plan to write a future post on them.
